the ads are based on your surfing habits, so no one to blame but yourself 😉

I think I hear the powers that be frowning in your general direction.

If by the powers that be, you mean my wife then yes, you're probably right.

Oh hang on you weren't talking to me... 😉

The first rule of adblocking on stw is that you don't talk about adblocking on stw.

(although by posting this I appear to be breaking the first rule, d'oh!)

LOL. Funnily enough it wasn't something I ever contemplated until the "new" site redesign, now though.....

All you can eat restaurant in Birmingham here, I've never noticed any targeted advertisements based from browsing habits, guess it down to your IP provider, web browser ands choice of OS

Isn't it strange how we're not allowed to mention you know what 😉 , but we can openly discuss quidco ?

The OP didn't come back on did he? 😆

My ads are mostly for all you can eat junk food - how do they know I'm a fat bast**d?

I had a slightly raunchy ad for World of Warcraft appear next to the forum earlier for some reason - I thought he was referring to that.

Are they really tailored? I'm not a gamer and have never searched on anything like that. All the other ads are bike related.

I've got an add for making a mug with a photo on it so I guess they must know I used Flickr a lot?

Some ads are targeted based on your browsing history but even then not in the way you think. We are running some retargeting ads at the moment as a trial. These work by remembering products on certain websites that you have looked at. Then when you visit us here you may be presented with either an ad for a better deal on what you have just been browsing or for similar items from that website. There's a little 'i' in the corner of these ads and if you click that you can find out more about how they work and even opt out of the retargeting altogether.

Incidentally, the new site has fewer ads displayed on each page. Premier users get to turn off all but two ads in the RH column and the sponsor positions.

@Mark - I've got no ads at all. Zero. Not that I'm complaining!

There is a section headed Adverisment, but nothing it in.

I did see ad's yesterday (JE James, CRC kinda stuff) but not today.
