AAAARGH!
What is it for apart from to slow down all traffic in to London on the M4? A monumental spunking of money just to paint it red to allow some moronic ****tard in an empty minibus or an equally empty minicab to trundle along a little quicker ferrying no one to nowhere. Besides, the Heathrow Express exists and is much quicker and better than any taxi could hope to be.
However, here's the thought - Is it more important to get TO an airport or FROM an airport quickly? I think the former, as one might need to rush for a plane. So, why is it running the other blinking way?
You do know it's being scrapped right
It just defers the traffic jam to J3 rather than the start of the elevated section anyway so probably won't make much difference
Great news! I wasn't aware of that, have been away from the news for a while!
i dont think scrapping it will make much difference, things still have to go down to 2 lanes before it hits the overpass as djglover said defering the start of the jam
even though i live near the end of the m4 i tend not to use it to get back into london
imho its all about jealousy - i hate seeing the black cabs cruise past while i am stuck in a jam it really gets on my moobs
the real solution would be to make rail travel cheaper and nicer (and drop me at a trailhead;-)
ultimately there are just too many cars

Agreed. There's no real incentive to get on a train as it's way too expensive and a very unpleasant travel experience. And it doesn't get you to where you want to be...! 😉
It actually increases the traffic speed. I used it before and after it was built, and it helps loads. Instead of 3 lanes of idiots merging into 2 in the normal chaotic way, you take off a lane at a junction leaving 2+bus lane, then merge the bus lane in later.
Removing it is likely to make traffic worse, and will increase the number of accidents.
Man on the Today programme on Friday evening claimed the average journey time for all traffic on the section of motorway had improved. Although he was from the RMT.

Traffic usually reduces in a recession.
i think he means improved since the buslane was introduced
I loved that bus lane when I was at uni in Cardiff and travelled home to London on the National Express. Saved loads of time, zipping down the outside while everyone else queued up. 🙂
One of John Prescott's very few good ideas although he still failed spectacularly on his/New Labour's promise of a fully integrated transport system.
