Am I suffering the karma brought on for purchasing a road bike?
I took the plunge and got myself a road bike ( with hydraulic discs so not all bad) but I have now for the last three weeks had a low level of lurgi. Not man flu but simply feeling cold, snuffly, sinus headache and lacking any sort of drive or enthusiasm. 3 weeks now! To say am fed up with it is an understatement. Anyone else had anything similar or have I just come to the end of the line and it’s time to settle in for the long slow decline?
M

Get a dog. They can then lick you better. I'm not entirely sure this is true but we live in a post-truth world now anyway.

Could also be something more serious.

We (wife and I) where sick for something like 6 weeks. Started with sore throat, then cold to more flu-ish and ended up with a stomach/vomiting thing

Good news is it’s passed now, just seemed to go on forever

I've had some lurgy or other since late September, with a brief respite early November for ~10 days, which might be finally going again. Still hit my 8000m of climbing per month, just didn't often do "KOM or death" efforts, as the latter would be far more likely. 😈

As the saying goes, carry on riding (but at moderate effort) if it's above the neck, but if it's below the neck try not to ride at all.

Lurgy since September. 4-6 different colds/flu? Temperature twice. Conjunctivitis.

Bought a new bike which clearly set it all off.

Nope, that's definitely just a dog.

Our whole household is under the grip of some form of cat aids and its been 3-4 weeks now with symptoms that seem to rotate every week. I was on the road to recovery yesterday but have now woken up with the black plague and back to square 1 so i guess another week of illuminous snot for me.

OP and Blader1611 I'll have your bikes when the end comes.

Dog lick does cure most things though.

I came down with horrendous coughing fits at the end of August which put me off work for 3 weeks. STW kindly informed me it was probably a 100 day cough. Sure enough it was dying away by the middle of November and then became a horrendous cold which I've still not shifted. OH is somewhat worse than me at the moment. I'm hoping to be OK come springtime.

Two weeks in for me, week one sore throat and sweats, cleared up the Sunday morning, went on my bike, Sunday evening horendous cold and cough with a temp of 38, changed to just a cough, felt ok on Friday, back to a new cold and feeling vile yesterday. Wife's been similar but worse needing antibiotics for tonsillitis. Baby also been ill but seemingly not as bad thankfully. Pretty narked off

Three weeks into the cold/manflu for me. I thought I had got rid of it one week ago and did a turbo session (funnily enough on a new road bike) and then it came back with a vengeance the next day..

Two weeks off with shingles, back for 4days awake through the night to the pleasant effects of all solids and liquids inside me leaving through the nearest exit. Which means a Wednesday return at the earliest.

Almost everyone I know has had at least one nasty cold recently. I’ve just done a ride today after 2 weeks off the bike with sneezing, sniffling and sinus problems. Still feel tired though, so I didn’t ride too hard.

I'm in bed right now with actual "real" flu, and highly unpleasant it is too.
One thing I wasn't ready for is the vast over-production of saliva (a pint a day plus another at night) yes I measured. This effectively means next to no sleep as it takes about 60 seconds to fill up my mouth to the point where it needs emptying into a suitable receptacle. This is really difficult to contend with.

Dave, you haven't got the flu, you have Rabies. 😯

Seems to be quite a common theme, including with me, where it seems to go and then comes back with a vengeance... And then rinse/repeat for weeks on end.

Don't know if it's a good sign, but I've not long come back from a hill rep session on my favourite local hill and knocked out several new PBs. I might die overnight. 😈

Sounds like cat aids to me.

Well I don't feel so bad now knowing all you fit specimens are knackered too.

Knew if I searched "manflu" I would find a thread 🙁

Two and a half weeks now of what feels like a pretty intense chest infection. Feel a little better now but have a really persistent cough that just won't shift, no riding at all for a fortnight now, well pissed off.

Assuming I ever actually get better is there a specific amount of time you're supposed to leave before riding/exercising having had a chest infection?

Spent New Year’s Day sprawled on the couch with my g/f, had no energy or desire to do anything bar watch telly. She’s felt really rough, had a very sore throat and chesty cough, and I’ve had a sore throat and thickly cough, but it’s been a lot worse previous years, it’s more like a regular cold for me.

Working through the symptoms one at a time here: started with a rash on torso & arms but no other symptoms just before Christmas, that started to clear up to be replaced by headache, aching limbs & dizziness, now moved on to dry nonproductive chesty cough and, from yesterday, a runny nose. Expecting sore throat next...i can feel it coming 🙁

Came down with something over Xmas. Knocked me out for a day. Had a chesty cough and a bit of fatigue since. Still riding but keeping the intensity fairly low until it passes. Isn’t getting any worse though it does seem to be lingering 🙁

Feel a little better now but have a really persistent cough that just won't shift

As I said earlier I came down with a chest infection which STW informed me would result in me coughing for 100 days or so. Well 4 months later it seems to have finally subsided and I do feel a lot brighter than I did a couple of weeks ago (my breathing as evidenced by my oboe playing is very much better). So I guess I'll have to start playing out again.

In bed for the last 24hrs. Fever , chills , coughing , sneezing , really bad headache and inner ear canal pain . Had to resort to Coodeine at 3am just for some sleep, and tinitus or something very similar.
Had a sore throat from news Year day so knew I was going to be hit hard. Normally , for me, the length of time for tonsilits/sore throat = severity of man flu. This one is a 3 dayer.
Hate being ill, even at this time of year
and what is it with lower back / kidney pain? very stiff and sore this morning

Anyone else had anything similar

Yep I've had it for about four weeks now. Had the start of a cold four weeks ago, went away within a day as they normally do, lost my voice a couple of days later then had a week where I felt rubbish. Started to get a bit better then cold came back last Saturday, still a bit chocked up but it's on it's way out hopefully.

First time I've had the lurgi for years.
