I heard kana bongo man on the radio and thought I'd listen to some more.
As I'm trialling amazon prime I can listen on that.
Ideally I'd like kanda bongo man to receive some money for his work.
The only current bands that I like I can buy their music direct from them.

Put his music on loop on Amazon Prime.
Each play will get him 0.05 cents.
ideally, from his bandcamp page if he has one... (or his label's page)

Oh.
Buying the music rather than streaming it would probably be more helpful. But even then, seemingly, for most musicians music sales only make about 6% of their income, so no matter how 'ethical' your purchase its not going to make a whole world of difference - its going to make the difference between pence and fractions of pence really. Buying a ticket for a gig would probably be more worth his while.
The market for music has reversed - touring used to be a loss-leader, a promotional tool for album/singles sales. Now its the other way around - performing pays the bills. Thats why a lot of older bands are gigging again even though they don't have anything new to play.

honestly, bandcamp is WAY better for artists than iTunes etc.
The other thing for small artists is that if no-one's buying your music, you don't know if it's worth putting together a tour, as you can't always risk making a loss - and better sales will either encourage the label to help with costs or at not drop the artist. So it's a bit outdated now but buying the music (on physical format if possible, otherwise as mp3) is still a very good way to show your support!
Kanda Bongo Man revolutionized soukous by encouraging guitar solos after every verse and even sometimes at the beginning of the song.

oh no! prog! 😉
Buying off iTunes seems to be the only way with that artist. He's not on Bandcamp.
He'll get a few pence probably.
Go see him live, seems to be the only way artists can make money these days.
Although, I saw 3 bands for £5.50 last night - christ nose how they split that between em - I think band members (and crew) out-numbered the audience.
So I bought a single off the merch stall.
Musicians can only do it for the love of it these days!

I do a similar thing with some podcasts. They are available for free but I listen to them regularly and think they are well worth a couple of quid a month. Enough people do this to enable them to carry on being made. Everyone's a winner.
According to a BBC article an artist gets just over a pound per CD sale so even if you paypal'd Mr Bongo a fiver he'd be well up on the deal.
