Isn't the point of these things that a substantial proportion of what needs doing has been agreed in advance - Brown has been shuttling around like a crazy man. The summit is just that. At the end of it there will be a joint statement which is unlikely to surpise anyone who has been working on it for weeks.

So, in essence, there's no need to have the event as it's all been arranged behind the scenes.

While I do find the business of diplomacy fairly baffling, I understand that the practice of everyone involved being photographed smiling, and then having lunch together, is regarded as extremely important to the conduct of international relations. 😉

Tis a waste of money, eh? Just some propaganda; posturing by World Leaders, to pretend they really care.

Holding this pointless 'summit' in London puts London at risk of terrorism, public unrest, and just makes people angry. A very bad decision. Why coon't they hold it somewhere like Aberdeen; then no-one would bother going up there to protest. Thus, far smaller cost to police it.
