You have to phone the UK - and pay your normal international call charges for that. Fair enough.
You have to give the Passport Enquiries office in London a credit card number so that they can charge you £0.72 per minute to answer your questions.
Imagine running a company that is allowed to charge it's customers when they enquire on the delivery of something they've purchased . . .
