Why has she got saddle bags? Does the tip mean lead to bladder control problems?

If the ad shows a girl in anything less than a Burka then it should be reported to the mods so they can close it down like they did with the 'Gorgeous and Talented' thread yesterday which was full of pictures of female singers wearing the type of clothing you'd see on any street on a warm day. Abhorrant it was.

Hypocritical that the forum close each thread about attractive women, whilst half the advertising contains NSFW semi naked young women advertising t-shirts.

Oh, hold on... I hate this intelligent target marketing!

Maybe I need it spelling out to me but I fail to see how that thread was offensive. It was a selection of (mostly musicians) that people here personally find attractive and contributions from the female members of this site would have been perfectly welcome. The subject is a debate my wife and I have quite regularly at home, over both male and female figures. None of the pictures that were posted were in my opinion, not work-safe and a lot of them presumably came from album covers or publitity shots that would have been displayed in music stores nationwide.
In Monday's episode of 'Miranda' both Miranda and Stevie were lusting over Gary Barlow. Should I take offence at that because I will never have Gary Barlow's voice or looks?

I totally agree, but this is unfortunately in the forum rules (albeit specifically about the A&A/Kylie threads but near enough I think?):

As long as no one is offended by this ‘tradition’ we see no problem with letting it continue as long as all other guidelines and rules are strictly adhered to. If you do find this tradition to be offensive or distasteful then please email us at moderator@singletrackworld.com (or just click the ‘report this post’ link on the post in question). The Kylie Clause is only allowed as we assume that it is considered harmless by the majority of users of the forum. We will not know any different unless you make us aware of your feelings.

What annoys me about threads like that is that they pretend to be about liking a particular female performer, but its never about their skill at melodies ( wow, her use of dim7 on the 2nd verse really brings out the tone of the whole song!!) but about whether her bum is actually eating her shorts.

Perv by all means, but at least be honest about it.

Edit: kylie started before I joined nothing I can do about it, and at least CFH is honest about his perving when he celebrates the athletic threads, and puts up piccies of boys as well as girls

I'll concede that one or two of the posts were perhaps thinly veiled, but I don't really want to get into an arguement over where 'tounge in cheek' stops and offence starts as that's very much a personal thing.

The word 'perv' is a hard one to pin down. Does it only apply to visual stimuli? I posted a picture of Justine Frischmann and I can honestly say that the sound of her voice gives me more of an internal glow than any pictures of bum eating shorts.

She could post a "poster boys" thread if she wants on the basis of dental aptitude, and if us gents found it offensive, we could report it.

Do the mods take into account the type of people who's hobby seems to be finding things to be offended by, and therefore ignoring them when they report a post for being 'offensive'?

To quote Steve Hughes;

Now you have adults going “I was offended, I was offended and I have rights!” Well so what, be offended, nothing happened. You’re an adult, grow up, and deal with it. I was offended! Well, I don’t care! Nothing happens when you’re offended. “I went to the comedy show and the comedian said something about the lord, and I was offended, and when I woke up in the morning, I had leprosy."

Nothing Happens. “I want to live in a democracy but I never want to be offended again.” Well you’re an idiot.

How do you make a law about offending people? How do you make it an offense to offend people? Being offended is subjective. It has everything to do with you as an individual or a collective, or a group or a society or a community. Your moral conditioning, your religious beliefs. What offends me may not offend you. And you want to make laws about this? I’m offended when I see boy bands for god sake.

It’s a valid offense, I’m offended.

😈 😉

In this day and age, you're supposed to be massively faux-offended on their behalf, then loudly tell everyone that they could be offenced so they'd best stop the thread.

Having this discussion with that T-shirt ad over there ->

Is funny.

Anyhow, the problem isn't admiring good-looking people. That's normal. The problem is treating people as objects, and especially online there is a big problem with attitudes towards women, especially women who aren't supermodels and who have views of their own. Mary Beard suffered some particularly vile abuse online recently for daring to have opinions on TV.

I guess the mods what to cut out any possibility of that kind of thing happening.

Perhaps, but women are seen more in our society as objects, not people. Yes I know men are used on adverts too, but nowhere near as much, and that Kyle thread shows it. Will the agent provocateur ad be banned by the mods? Yes because it's more or less porno. It's a fine line, swimwear...lap dance... Sex industry

Can I stop it? No I can't, am i just as guilty, looking occasionally? Hell yeah,

doesn't make it right or ok though does it?

Emz, have you ever thought women are used in adverts most...because they drive the vast majority of purchasing choices?

How is a bikini more or less porno? There's a big difference between a woman standing in a bikini and a woman spreading her legs in one with an inviting look. One is sexualized and the other is likely not to make me bat an eye lid.

The only reason why partial-nudity with no other context is sexualized sometimes...is due to the fact that some people still have victorian attitudes towards the human body.

doesn't make it right or ok though does it?

What, so we should all become like religious folk? Have guilty pleasures and **** ourselves up mentally? Or should we view sexuality as normal and healthy.

And before anyone says...."but but these aren't normal women....bad examples blahdyblahblah".... anyone that can't distinguish between the fantasy we see presented by the media and reality needs their head examined.

Yup, I'd say the latter are as well. In fact most religions.

Why else do southerners in the states watch more porn than the democratic states....maybe...just maybe.....it's because they have weird attitudes towards the body and sex.

Didn't say it was. I said the agent provocateur advert of her riding the bucking bronco more or less is.

This^^^^ At least naked women are nice to look at!

Besides, it ain't exactly as if the women were "forced" to model now were they, and i'm guessing the male to female ratio of users on here is at least 10:1. So after every 10th girl, we need to show a nekked bloke pic. Fairs Fair!

(and as to religion, don't even get me started. They just want to kill anyone who doesn't believe in the same (made up) god! Now i might like 26 inch wheels and you might preffer to worship at the altar of the 29er, but i ain't going to come a murder you and your entire family for that view............ (probably 😉

I certainly have problems with some sort of aesthetic us blokes are meant to achive. I've got enough about me to know and realise those images are impossible unattainable images though. And that's that, just do healthy stuff like cycling. bollocks to some sort of image(or job/life) you are supposed to attain. get a grip! Same for women!

This is nothing. A (female) friend put an article on FB regarding a procedure known as 'The Barbie'.

A misandrist feminist took vast (and lengthy) offence that I had an opinion, given that as a man I am, by extension, a rapist (there is a whole realm of this stuff out there believe me).

Apart from providing me with some entertainment it has also confirmed my support of Stephen Fry's views on being offended;

'It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights. It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. "I'm offended by that." Well, so ****ing what?' —Stephen Fry

What annoys me about threads like that is that they pretend to be about liking a particular female performer

The kylie (recent) thread wasn't about her music at all.

And nobody was pretending it was either.

Otherwise there would have been links to Audio files or YouTube videos of performances.

But there wasnt, just loads of photos.

Perv by all means, but at least be honest about it.

Seemed perfectly honest to me.

Nothing to be annoyed about then eh ?

Not that I really understand the logic in saying its fine to perv over women and objectify them as long as you own up to it.

But getting annoyed if people pretend they are just interested in the songs or whatever.

It's either wrong to objectify women, or it isn't.

Being honest about it shouldn't make any difference.

<2p>

I don't see a problem with men admiring women, women admiring men, or for that matter men admiring men and women admiring women, if they're so disposed, and discussing it in a civil manner. It's all perfectly natural.

What I think is unacceptable is a big bunch of blokes all braying "waay, look at the knockers on that, she can grease my pole anytime" and other such Wildean witticisms. It's uncomfortable, and it's not a million miles removed from bullying.

So yes, there's a degree of "stop being offended" certainly, but that doesn't give us all carte blanche to act like inconsiderate pricks.

Indeed so presumably emsz and whoever feels strongly about it has.
Funny though these type of ads have been on here for ages.No idea how STW ad. selling space works but if emsz feels so strongly about hypocrisy she should address her concerns to STW towers who appear to be the ones benefitting from these,in her opinion(and several others no doubt), inappropriate ads.
I do recollect one of the mods mentioning trying to do something about it in another thread btw.

I do find it odd that people advertise tee's on a site that is mainly inhabited by blokes using a girl with massive boobs, altho I admit that sometimes I do stare at it cos they are ridiculous. How do I know if the tee will fit me properly unless a bloke's modelling it?

I wondered what happened to that "talented and gorgeous to boot" thread?, as far as i could tell there was nowt wrong wi it in the slightest, no pictures of girls in their underwear, no posed pictures or overtly sexual comments that i could find - Fair enough.... if you were offended by it then don't look at it but to report it to the mods is taking the "I'm offended, ban it now" stance in my opinion. So you were offended?, bully for you!, I consider Stephen Fry has the correct response for this situation which has been posted earlier in this thread but i'm not going to repeat it for fear of getting reported 🙄 and finally? ...in what way was the entire thread about "perving" or "tits", not one person made a comment regarding "tits" of any kind, many posts regarding fantastic singer etc but not one making reference to breasts or an arse.

Get over it,

I am trying to reconcile the deleting of posts/threads that include pictures of women with the constant adverts on here that are blatantly using women to sell things. Provocative pictures to market menswear is encouraged, it would seem. Not the most consistent policy?

So has no-one else managed to listen to the whole foods you shouldn't eat thread? Damn, I will have to endure the whole thing!

The consistency of the policy is probably fairly sturdy.

If you want to post pictures of a scantily clad woman, feel free to pay for it as an advert, and then start a thread without the picture included but mention that is what the thread is about 🙂

Money talks 😉

STW has limited control on what adverts appear some are based on a users history which is why when I log out I see sheds and other boring offers, however if anyone finds them offensive then please report them and the name of the company to us and we will look into it.

But presumably is ultimately responsible for them? I thought this was the line usually trotted out for controversial posts on the forum being deleted.

STW has limited control on what adverts appear

Assuming that someone sat in a meeting then signed a contract, I would say that while there is no control over the ads that appear there is a responsibility and acceptance that this lack of control could cause problems.

We ask for them to be reported if anyone spots any problems as it's often the fastest way as the forum is on 24/7 where as staff don't work 24/7. They're has been blocked adverts before and there will again. If there was a lack of control there'd be far worse ones I'd have said.

I don't find them offensive particularly just a little odd/inconsistent. Compared with the male/female Pwoor threads on another (relatively conservative) sports website the moderation of photos on here seems strict IMO. But they are your rules and the (possible) inconsistency is only matching the same for society as a whole - much nicer to look at than sheds I agree!!!

Its a bit like religion - open playing field for all sorts of abuse on here that isn't tolerated with other topics. Including almost 1000 pages with an insulting title and OP!!! Again probably a fair reflection of society at large.

Any raises on concentrated juice, bread and margarine BTW?
