Sure i've read threads about them on here before, but my search-fu is weak today.

Who'd recommend what? After 4 GU10 for the kitchen and figure I'll pick up bayonet one to try elsewhere, then replace other lights as and when the standard energy savers piss me off.

Bonus points for anything I can pick up from Screwfix on the way home.

5W warm white Gu10's from LED hut are what I've used and am very happy with. installed about 50 and just one dimmable one was replaced as it buzzed when on a dimmer (not when on a normal switch though).

50?! You an electrician, or scared of the dark? 😉

Do look good, relatively pricey though, but I suspect you get what you pay for, I guess a GU10 needs to have a transformer and the LEDs packed in there.

Big house!

Price has actually come down a fair bit - I was paying over £10 each initially.
LedHut seem very good - if you don't like them just send them back. They replaced the one dodgy one very quickly for me. never buy at full price though - make sure it's a 25% discount day.

Hmm looking some more they do some 120degree ones, might give those a bash. Thinking wider beam spread will be ok for my kitchen, as we have worktop lights too.

I say that, we don't actually have any worktops or cabinets yet...

The 250lm jobbies from Homebase at around a tenner a pair are very good. Not as wide angle as sharkbaits link (which I will be buying for my kitchen refit) but they work well in smaller rooms and are a little cheaper.

These ones are the ticket....a pal has a about 30 of these through his house and is well happy.

That'll be 10 (TEN) for £16.99 😀

My first batch of 6 were expensive jobbies from Toolstation, Sylvania if I remember correctly and were £16 each. They didn't last a year, and all have been replaced with 5W LAP LED's from Screwfix, these have been good and 18 months on not had any problems.

I decided to replace another set of six halogen lights in my kitchen and as Scewfix were out of the LAP units, I bought these from amazon. So far so good.

Best leds I've seen are by megaman, most similar colour temp to halogen.

Colour temperature is everything. Those Osrams look good. We have them in the kitchen dining room and they are excellent. Not cheap (if you need 50) but research and development costs money.

Well I only need 4, so not too spendy.

Biggest difference to me is probably the beam angle and how spotty they are, thinking wider is better for my application.

So ordered some from LED Hut, will see how they are.

...and then checking my emails after for the order confirmation realise they've emailed me my account password in plaintext *facepalm*.

Though they already have my personal info by this point, I'm not sure I have a lot of confidence in a company that can't get basic stuff like that right.

(in case anyone wonders, this is bad as a) it means they know what my password is, this is unnecessary, you can check a password without ever needing to know what it is, and b) email aint secure.)

I've had registration emails from many companies that include the password I've chosen.
Generally if there's an option to pay by PayPal I'll use it so I don't have to create an account

Yeah I went for paying by paypal... still had to give them my info tho.

Filled in a support request on their website to see what they say.

I've had registration emails from many companies that include the password I've chosen.

Really? I'm happy to say it's pretty unusual these days, worth naming and shaming when you see it, it's really not on. There's no need for them to ever know the password, they just need to be able to match a hash.

http://plaintextoffenders.com/faq/non-devs

explains it quite nicely.

Heh and LED Hut are on there already:

As much as I'd love the disco-kitchen option, it's not very economical...

Thank you for your email. Please accept our apologies. I have informed the web manager so that this does not happen in the future.

Heh, we'll see, eh.

I love 6700k in my office, very white but it's like the sun is shining all the time 🙂

I ordered something from LED Hut, realised straight away I'd screwed up, emailed them and said "Can I please cancel my order?", they dispatched it the following day. No option to cancel online, just said to email. Hey ho! I'll have to send them back, could've saved everyone postage and hassle though!
