I'm building a treehouse, got some 2x6s fit the deck frame and some joist hangers to fix en together with
The problem is my timber is actually about 47mm in diameter and the 51 mm joist hangers splay out toward the top like this

Surely 51mm is bigger than 47mm so the timber should fit in nicely?
The key point is that your joist sits hard down onto the bottom of the hanger. Use galv twist nails also.
Git the twist nails. Do I need to bend in the top bits?

Square a line down one side of the timber and nail one side of the hanger to it.
Drop in second bit of timber. Push the joist hanger over and hit the little toggle thing to hold it in place.
Nail all holes.
Damn you-start a thread on the EU or something. Joist hangers - pah...
Yeah the hangers allow some dimensional variation. Bend them in following the tip about squaring above.

I guess you got CLS timber then not rough sawn. Get some 47mm joist hangers. Wickes do them.
Looks like you've bought 2" hangers for English oak. You aren't using EU pine are you? This sort of thing won't be possible soon.
As above its fine. Just bend them to fit. No need for precision engineering
