Worth the dosh?
If you are spending your money buying me a bottle, then yes, absolutely.
If I am spending my money buying a bottle for you - no.
If you are spending your own money on yourself, then you have to work out how much a bottle's worth of dosh is worth to you - what else might you spend that money on? What percentage of your disposable income is it?
( I still haven't found a good reason to open my 20 year old Talisker bought in April )
There are those* who would say that Whisky, unlike Brandy, begins to degrade after a certain age, so paying more for booze thats that bit older is a bit of a con, as is keeping it for longer. Its all about marketing to the corporate gift buying culture in the far east, incrementally more status laden gifts for incrementally more senior recipients, so you give a 10 year old bottle to your boss, and 15 year old to his boss and 20 year old to the boss of all bosses. However one and maybe even two of those bottles will have passed their peak and will be in decline.
*such as people who have left the distillery industry
I prefer the 10 year old. But I'm a philistine. There's definately a difference, but subjectively I just prefer the taste of the regular Talisker.
probably not...look to get a later model such as the Talisker 21 , 27 , or next seasonn 30...
The 18yo is glorious, IMO. It has all the flavour of the 10 yo, but is much smoother. Well worth the extra if you're into your malts.
