Now then, I consider myself half decent at repairing the old van, but one thing I’ve never really tackled is rust. It’s a 10 year old VW and there’s some stone chips, and areas where bike rack has been rubbing that are starting to show signs of rust. Is there a tried and tested method I should be following to sort it? I’ve got some rust inhibitor, but assuming I need to take the chips back to bare metal what is the best sanding device? And then what? Primer and touch up presumably?

I've used a small bit of wet and dry paper to clean out the stone chips and dabbed etch primer into them with a cotton bud. Plan is to dab in touch up paint when the weather gets warmer.
