I bought a tarp from decathlon and some some silicon covered magnets with hooks.

Quick to put up, quick to take down. Takes up naff all space. Bag is about 45cm long and 10cm round including poles.

Tbh... Had it for a few years and not really wanted more. That said, there is just the two of us, we tend not to park up on sites for days at a time and need a drive away awning. The awning is really just a shaded area when parked up, not a storage area.

Also had the added benefit of being pitched away from the van.

Awning rail that bolts in to bolts for roof rack reasonably cheap
Seen a few suggestions to do this then sew tv aerial cable into a decathlon tarp to thread into it

Yep a rail that bolts to your roof rack bolts is not much and fairly invisible

You can maybe make one if you are or know a handy sewing machine person. Sew in a 6mm kador strip.

Funky leisure do a cheap one, I had one and liked the idea

Kiravans do an expensive one, I got one after liking the idea but wanting something more solid

Never seen the stitches and steel one before, looks like it sits in the middle

See here for loads of options and my rail sail write up: http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1113346

Simple awning rail doesn't work with my roof bars
Others work out more expensive and more obvious
There's one that does bolt below roof rack but they won't post to NI or anywhere else at the minute having checked

Stitches and Steel one here too, fitted their awning rail on both sides of our Caravelle for the twin sliders. Rail was a bit of a faff as it's sectional and I needed to mod it to fit with foot rack feet, all good though with the bolts and Sikaflex.

We use a decathlon pop up tent. works a treat and really does take seconds to put up.

I also wonder if one of these would be good

I bought a tarp from decathlon and some some silicon covered magnets with hooks.

That sounds like a great idea - I have the tarp but I faff around with string at the moment. I can't find silicon covered magnets on ebay - where did you get yours from?

Would be interested to see a pic of them as well. Have had a quick look but not sure I am looking at the right thing.
