Over the last month I have received an couple of email requests from 'Paypal' to renew my account details for unusual activity with my account. I have immediately gone to my paypal account page and tried to find a notification directly from them. I can't seem to find any confirmation there

I'm suspecting the emails may be a scam.

If you have to ask, it's a scam.

HOvering over the link in the email should show you the web address it wants you to go to - if it starts "www.paypal.com" then it's OK.

Aren't there security things like Paypal use your name in correspondence.
What is the address of the Paypal sender? How does that compare to other genuine Paypal emails?

Pretty common scam. Most browsers these days won't let you follow the links in these emails, so hopefully you're still secure.

Forward the email to Paypal and let them deal with it.

never click through any link in an email that pertains to be from a financial thingy, ever. go direct to the website, if you must check.

I've had a spate of fisshing emails over the last week, some pretty poor or for banks I don't have accounts with, others looking more genuine but there's nearly always a bit of bad grammar in there somewhere. The other give away is a request to update details via a link contained in the email. Genuine requests will never do this, they'll expect you to log into your account as you normally would.

An interresting variation we had the other day was a request to hand over our details so a delivery from a mail order company we rarely use could be released. I'm now just automatically cycnical of any email we get.

To be honest if i get any email like this i will go to the homepage of the site it claims to come from and log in that way, if it is real it will be there if not it won't.

never click a link in an email if it could be detrimental to yourself, ie money.

As BigRich says - never ever click a link in an email for financial stuff. Always go to the website directly and log in.

No, because you could set up a subdomain to look like that e.g. www.paypal.com.1234.com
also the status bar can be altered using javascript and setting window.status
