The Mrs is looking us buying a 200 year old house, which apparently has some damp issues relating to pointing. The vendor says they have a quote for the required repairs which is available for inspection. I am more circumspect then Mrs Kilo so should we go any further with this is it worth getting a specialist builder / surveyor in who is used to old buildings or would a standard surveyor be ok? Any recommendations for Somerset area?

I do lime pointing, lime harl and stonework on old and historic properties for a living. Sadly not in somerset, but the info in the above link is all sound
Cheers will pass it on to the mrs
I second Vader, qualified bricky here working on old properties, work with lime etc all the time. Look at The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) loads of stuff on there which will give you loads of useful info. MUTDz
@vader, cheers for that. I'm in the process of buying an old house with a damp/wet cellar so that's answered a few questions and raised a few more
