Except for Ben Thatcher case above, they took retrospective action despite the ref carding him...

I may have not pointed this out but, the FA USED to take retrospective action even after the Ref had been deemed to have dealt with the matter but changed their minds & stopped a few years ago.

2006 would be about the period when they would impose additional punishments even after the Ref had acted.

So the long and short of it is the FA are not fit for purpose, Suarez is a numpty for biting, and Baconface still won the title....and what ever you do a a player don't kung fu kick, bite, then push the ref over because you'll get a dry slap

What did Duncan Ferguson get for nutting a player? 3 months in jail.

Agreed, but he bit an opponent not a colleague.

And that makes it different how, exactly?

Should be facing a criminal inquiry, not a half-arsed punishment that sticks him on fully paid gardening leave for six months.

Ivanovic doesnt want to press charge or whatever, so its not happening, simple

Check the time period to see what the FA had decided they could & couldnt do.

Ah so if I go out and bite someone from the Redcross I get 10 weeks holiday rather than the sack. Cool!

Surely Liverpool fans, this is a good thing? You get to indulge in your favourite pastime... endless whining pointing out, completely legitimately, the obvious injustice of the way you are treated, compared to other clubs
S'not fair!
*awaits text deluge from outraged fayns*

10 matches is not long enough, I don't care how good a player he is he is not fit to wear the shirt with behaviour like that
I'm a Liverpool fan

Glupton Duncan Ferguson got 3 months in the pokey but the headbutt was the final act in a list of assault convictions. A talented player but a Muppet also

He doesn't have to.

& neither do the police, so you really want him to do jail time for it? really?

Not really it seems pushing a ref is a bigger offence than biting.

It seems that breaking someone's jaw is a smaller offence than biting.

To those who would have Suarez prosecuted, fine, but just think how many fouls in a match would technically be common assault. And you can kiss goodbye to rugby, too.

I can see the point in the FA being reluctant to not change the action taken by the ref in a match. Lets face it Fergi would be camped out on their doorstep with a team of lawyers challenging every decision that didn't go his way.
