He probably got 5 added on this morning for coming out in all the papers saying he only deserves a 3 match ban. Yes Louis, the point is that you're not the one who gets to decide. Hence the FA panel and stuff. Probably best to keep your mouth shut. That being what got you into this mess in the first place

He's not the sharpest tool in the box, is he? ๐Ÿ™„

Should be for life, if any of us bit a colleague we'd be sacked.

the ban should run from the when the offence was committed so his goal should be scratched, might bring some sense to these idiots & clubs.

Had to be more than he got for the first biting offence or the FA would have looked toothless.

Agreed, but he bit an opponent not a colleague.

I wonder if Liverpool would have got rid of him if he had Andy Carroll's scoring record, rather than his own...

He wouldn't have got such a lengthy ban for an unprovoked punch or kick, and I don't see that it's any different.

Suprisingly his also still nominated for the PFA award, surely can't be up for that now either?

should be a life ban for that kind of stupid stunt. a 10 match ban will not hurt the toothy twaat in wnyway. The FA, FIFA, UEFA need to start making examples of players as like it or not, they are role models to kids (and adults unfortunately)..

9 months - Manchester United's Eric Cantona for 'kung-fu' kicking a supporter in 1995

The PFA award is nominated by his professional colleagues in the game, and as your not allowed to vote for people in the same club, he might see himself with a lot less votes after Sunday.

Because it was someone in the crowd. Show me where someone got a 10-match ban for a kick that didn't seriously hurt his opponent.

Er, man bites work mate and gets 10 days off? Football should be ashamed of itself for the following:
1) Employing violent idiots
2) being unable to properly discipline the idiots when they are violent.

Surely Liverpool fans, this is a good thing? You get to indulge in your favourite pastime... [s]endless whining[/s] pointing out, completely legitimately, the obvious injustice of the way you are treated, compared to other clubs

S'not fair! ๐Ÿ˜†

PFA award was probably voted on ages ago.
I heard Cameron was looking to launch a Naval Task Force to Paraguay to stop those South Americans from ever biting one of ours ever again! If the Maggie/Falklands moment presents itself it has to be seized upon.

That would be a bit unfair, seeing as he's from Uruguay!

Should have been a life ban. I can accept an isolated incident however he has history. If necessary if all offences are with different governing bodies FIFA could just say not wanted in the game. Something like a three strikes and your out rule.

Thats from a scouser Binners, can't belive you have the neck if you support united with Sir Alices and your own fans history.

Defoe got a yellow card when he bit a West Ham player a few years ago
doesn't seem a balanced approach to punishment

He's lucky Ivanovic didn't chin him, he's built like a tank

Balanced? From the FA? The whole olde worlde charm of the FA is the complete make-it-up-as-you-go-along inconsistency of their sanctions. I think they just pull a number out of a hat, or something

10 match ban seems harsh to me, didn't even appear to be a mark on Ivan's arm. Silly thing is that they should be consistent and look back at previous bans/fines - Defoe bit Masherano and got a yellow so in that context I'd say it's very harsh.

It's about time the FA used video evidence retrospectively for all these offences, Rooney elbowing McCarthy for example could have done much more damage to the injured player than the bite, yet let off??!?!?!

Consistency has to be used otherwise the FA yet again look like a bunch of donkeys

They did, some Ajax player bit someone and got 7 games, that would teach them a lesson and they wouldn't do it again in a hurry right?

9 months - Manchester United's Eric Cantona for 'kung-fu' kicking a supporter in 1995
9 months - Chelsea keeper Mark Bosnich who tested positive for cocaine in 2003
8 months - Rio Ferdinand of Manchester United for missing a drugs test in 2003
7 months - Sacked Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu for failing a drug test
12 games - QPR's Joey Barton for two counts of violent conduct against Manchester City players in 2012
11 games - Sheffield Wednesday's Paolo Di Canio for pushing referee Paul Alcock in 1998
10 games - Southampton's David Prutton for shoving referee Alan Wiley in 2005
10 games - Luis Suarez for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in 2013
9 games - Paul Davis of Arsenal for punching Southampton's Glenn Cockerill in 1988 and breaking his jaw
8 games - Luis Suarez for racially abusing Patrice Evra in 2011
8 games - Man City's Ben Thatcher for elbowing Portsmouth's Pedro Mendes in 2006
5 games - Man Utd's Roy Keane for comments made in his autobiography in 2002

irelanst - they obviously didn't look back - defoe no ban, suarez 7 match - so an average of 3.5 match ban ๐Ÿ˜‰ It's not like in the list above where Paul Davis broke someones bloody jaw and got 9 matches.

How come defoe doesn't get a 10 match ban now retrospectively?

Assault is assault makes no odds if it's a ref, player or spectator.

As the Defoe incident was dealt with by the ref during the game the FA cannot act retrospectively. It is considered to be a closed matter.

edit: I've just had a peak at rawk, its going into complete melt-down! ๐Ÿ˜†

In other words, you can't.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your pov, but it's a fact that Suarez has been treated very harshly if we're comparing his offence to other on-field incidents, as listed by jonesyboy.

Not really it seems pushing a ref is a bigger offence than biting.

A precedent was set by the Dutch FA when they banned him for biting the first time, the FA could hardly let him off with less for a second offence.

If you want to blame someone blame the Dutch FA if you can't blame Suarez himself..

suarez needs help. he's an adult who has publicly bitten someone - on 2 separate occasions.

Except for Ben Thatcher case above, they took retrospective action despite the ref carding him...

I may have not pointed this out but, the FA USED to take retrospective action even after the Ref had been deemed to have dealt with the matter but changed their minds & stopped a few years ago.

2006 would be about the period when they would impose additional punishments even after the Ref had acted.

So the long and short of it is the FA are not fit for purpose, Suarez is a numpty for biting, and Baconface still won the title....and what ever you do a a player don't kung fu kick, bite, then push the ref over because you'll get a dry slap

Agreed, but he bit an opponent not a colleague.

And that makes it different how, exactly?

Should be facing a criminal inquiry, not a half-arsed punishment that sticks him on fully paid gardening leave for six months.

Ah so if I go out and bite someone from the Redcross I get 10 weeks holiday rather than the sack. Cool!

Glupton Duncan Ferguson got 3 months in the pokey but the headbutt was the final act in a list of assault convictions. A talented player but a Muppet also

It seems that breaking someone's jaw is a smaller offence than biting.

To those who would have Suarez prosecuted, fine, but just think how many fouls in a match would technically be common assault. And you can kiss goodbye to rugby, too.

I can see the point in the FA being reluctant to not change the action taken by the ref in a match. Lets face it Fergi would be camped out on their doorstep with a team of lawyers challenging every decision that didn't go his way.
