Hmmm. In some ways I can't say I'm surprised. (About the comment generally, not the reference to Hora)

Congratulations to Dan Carhcart for the grumpiest and yet most entertaining subscription cancellation letter ever. Dan wins the steam off...

...also quite intriguing: wonder what the reason for the cancellation was?

Congratulations to Dan Carhcart for the grumpiest and yet most entertaining subscription cancellation letter ever. Dan wins the steam off...

This letter needs to be made public knowledge.

yes, I wanted to see that letter

Is Hora really unpleasant?

He's clearly got some sort of forum Tourretes which means he has to post anything he thinks of as soon as he thinks it but most of the time I just find him baffling.

#horaclangers seems to have dropped off a bit recently too.

Hora

Really? He's an idiot, yeah but I don't think it's intentional and therefore not really unpleasant. There's certainly one or two others ahead of him in the queue

I think Hora's OK. Their comments are a bit harsh, but isn't that typical of ST?

this place is falling to bits. Watching the forum decend into playground antics is fair enough albeit very sad, but STW staff falling to our level??? Personal and public comments about people who support/ed you, nice work, very professional. Not doing yourselves any favours chaps.

doesn't take much nous to make a guess who'd be behind that comment.

Hora might be many things, but 'unpleasant' isn't one of the adjectives I'd use for his online presence.

I've now got visions of Hora wandering aimlessly away from the herd of stw posters and being tracked by bike journalists with high powered rifles in a Souther Comfort kind of style (but without the zydeco music)

The thing is with Hora is that he is like a puppy, the more abuse he gets the more he comes back for another slap.

I've said this before, you are either very thick skinned Hora or very thick.

That's not meant as an insult BTW.

KINGTUT- this forum ticks the box that lets off stress and steam.

If anyone speaks louder than the rest (there are some types on here who don't like that aren't they?) or throws in a silly viewpoint, hes set upon. Hence I'll keep throwing them into the area- it tickles me greatly.

Its an internet forum- why do you folk take its soo bloody seriously? Beyond me. take it for what it is and revel in its silliness, bathe in its freedom from linear-thought! Plus there is the odd subtle-troll skill of course (cough).

Ps. AndyP like your Mother I also love you 8)

Why is the fact that it is an internet forum any excuse for not respecting the people you are addressing in the same way you would if you were face to face? Or even more accurately face to face with the person you are addressing with a microphone transmitting to the public at large?

That's what we are all doing on here. We are communicating to the rest of the readers as much as we are addressing any group or individual. The same levels of respect and consideration of thoughts and opinions are required. The fact you can't see your audience is not an excuse. The fact this is an internet forum is not an excuse to behave in a way you would not otherwise do. That philosophy is enshrined in the forum rules and guidelines, which I'm currently updating. Soon they will become an agreement that everyone who uses this site must opt in to before they can access this forum or any other interactive part of the site.

And on that note it's probably a good opportunity to highlight one particular rule...

"No posts, including links to other sites that are deemed to be of a sexual or distasteful nature, incite racial or sexist behaviour or are in any way discriminatory and/or offensive towards individuals or minority groups."

This is in response to the increase of sexist and generally misogynistic posts that have been on the increase lately. The moderators have been told to look out closely for such posts and deal with them.

@Mark does "offensive towards individuals or minority groups" cover religious groups or is abuse towards them still except from the rule?

We could do with people not calling others cock. tw&t or other names as well. Along with the 'outside now' or the other week where someone posted up a picture of the meeting place for arranged fisty-cuff and the other didnt show. WTF.

Basically it's their forum and they do what they wish including slagging off forum members at their leisure.

I am amazed it wasn't me they named and shamed (and a bit disappointed).

Looking forward to seeing the full list of 'Nanny State' rules and regs we will have to cow-tow to.

Will northerners still be allowed to slag of southerners???

Reading this thread the other night didn't endear me to the people who run our beloved magazine and favourite internet forum at all.

Do you know I was in Rochdale this morning and I had some time on my hands and had this thought when I saw the road sign to Todmorden, should I pop upto my favourite magazine publishers place and say hello. But when ever I've tried before at race meetings I've always felt like I'm not in their clique and felt awkward, so decided that I would probably get the same again and decided not too.

After rereading this thread again it doesn't do the staff any good knocking people like Hora.

He and I have been around here a long time, I'm a lot quieter then he is on here, but I wouldn't like to be slagged off like he has been.

Regards a disappointed Pepper

They're a funny old lot a STW towers, I can well imagine that they're probably quite aloof and probably quite cliquey in their way too... Possibly something to do with that strange combination of weird micro-niche-pseuedo-stardom vs total obscurity to the rest of the general public, that defines their lives. Almost like school teachers in a way.

I seem to remember - a fair while back - one of the moderators commenting that they were actually finding the PaddedFred/Peado-gate thread quite amusing - then they took an about po-face and closed it. They seem to appear to on one hand advocate the inane playground antics of STW, but then shut them down as soon as it appears to be maybe tarnishing the business image of ST, which is fair enough I suppose.. It's a delicate balance.

The thing is, I really appreciate the daftness of this site, as much as I appreciate the occasionally 'daft' approach that ST takes to MTB journalism. The playground antics, in-jokes, irreverance and sillyness are part of what define STW for me and help foster a connection with a mountain biking community, comprised of people that I feel I know somehow, yet I may never meet.

"offensive towards individuals"

well, you can only take offense, not give it so if Hora's not bothered (which it would appear he isn't) then anyone else getting upset is just doing so in a vague 'outraged of tunbridge wells' kind of way, not on the grounds of any actual offense taken.

We have to work harder up here to pay for the wages of all those southern midwives. Up here, women give birth whilst still working at the looms in the mill. The child then automatically gets to work under the machines.
