An elderly relative is experiencing a burning sensation inside their body (whole torso, limbs etc ok), combined with some digestive issues. It usually happens when they're resting or sleeping and goes off eventually

At first I thought it was Vindaloo's Disease but apparently not *cough* and I don't think it's cat aids

it sounds like fybromyalgia(?) but apparently it's not that bad

They've been to the doctors for the usual tests but there's nothing really wrong with them and the doc said come back if it gets worse.

What do we think it is?

But fibromyalgia isn't actually a real illness is it?

Are you the type of person who tells someone with depression to cheer up?

Fibromyalgia is a name of a symptom it's not a disease in its own right

Absolutely not. I may have been deliberately provocative but is it not he case that there is plenty of debate in medical circles about fibro?

I don’t think it’s cat aids

We'll be the judge of that.

It could be bad cat aids.

Then by the process of elimination it must be (bad) monkey aids.

From the description you have given its pretty difficult to suddenly diagnose them, especially as the doctors who have seen and examined and taken a history haven't come up with anything yet.

Chronic pain conditions frequently present with burning type pain. Any change in bowel habit is a cause for concern - what I would focus on is are there any other worrying features e.g. gi bleeding, weight loss, lethargy, unexplained anaemia. If this new pain is accompanied with those things (or they start to present) then I would be going back for another chat with the doctor.

Either that or its cat aids. There is a lot of it about.

On what the cause is yes, it's been a recognised condition for long enough though.

Of course it can. Lots of people suffer anxiety-related illnesses.

Right

The relative is a serial worrier and was involved in a car accident a few weeks ago. Perhaps that has triggered something
