I'm curious as to how people cope with old injuries from a mental side. I broke my right clavicle 11 years ago in a car accident. The seat belt snapped it in two.
It healed together in a sling but formed a mal-union. It has altered the look and feel of my shoulder (its shorter) and sometimes send tingles down my arm. I suppose it's more discomfort than anything. However when the discmofort comes I become very self conscious of how it might look to anyone else and it can put me in a bit of an agitated mood.
I have been privately to see if any surgery could be done but apparently that may have or may not have worked and wasn't worth taking the risk.
When it starts to irritate I cant stop thinking about it, being aware of it. Any words of wisdom on how to mentally control it. It has been a feature that has affected my body image problems as I am already of a narrow shape so being any narrow from the accident hasnt done me any favours and made me very self conscious.
I was introduced to this book on this forum and I commend it to you, it teaches new ways of thinking about things. It's called Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy. Amazon has it for less than a fiver.
