Following on from a few canoeing threads on here, I had a look at the canoerists forum,

http://www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/42211-Cycling-forums

gosh, they don't like us do they

Tread carefully around singletrack world forum. .....Its frequented by quite an abusive and obnoxious sub culture.

like most forums to do with Cycling a lot of Cock bantams with to much testosterone

Poor spelling and punctuation and I bet he or she cannot manual around Cannock Chase car park.

Otherwise hard to argue

I don't really do forums these days, but I've been on cycling ones in the past where the members were so nice to each other it was sickly and cloying. So keep it up.

It seems that comments on that forum are rather abusive and obnoxious. I wonder if they can even spell [s]'ironny'[/s] [s]'ireny'[/s] 'irony'?

his website has a specific rule that we don't discuss politics though

WTF - bunch of weirdos....

I wonder if they can even spell 'ironny' 'ireny' 'irony'?

Ironing

I am very sorry, I did not intend to start a political discussion or hurt anybody's feelings!

But - I am convinced, there are still more things we all love and share than those who divide us.

lol this guy wouldn't last 2 minutes here 🙂

on a serious note, this forum is way more active than most so is bound to get a bit "lively". That's a good thing though, not least because you can post up a question on any random subject and normally get an expert answer before too long!

Cock bantom? That's weak. I'll raise them a cockwomble and a ****puffin. Canoeists must be a delicate bunch if they think this place is full of meanies #delicateoars

Maybe they just go paddling together and when they camp up and discover that they have differing political views they fight it out like real men on the river shore and the last one alive proclaims victory?

Although the discussions on here can get heated, I think underneath there is still quite a good feeling of 'comradeship' - most of the time it is robust 'debate'. And other times there is pretty good humour and also support when needed.

it has a point! I'd say on this forum there is an over-representation of 2 key grous:

1) people who argue in the needlessly provocative style of a 14 year old boy

2) people who are overly defensive

Not always a recipe for the most civil debates

Bunch of snow flakes more like, I suspect they only paddle on reservoirs when there is no wind and stay within 3' of the shore at all times....

Someone's calling the entire forum a bunch of male miniature chickens?

I've gone up in the world.

Maybe if we stick at it, we could move up a breed, to Cock Butcombes, or something.

The guy is right to a certain extent. There are a group of people on here that once they find an opinion they disagree with will keep posting endlessly in an effort to prove themselves right, and then when that isn't working the personal insults will start flying around. You can almost guarantee any non bike related thread over 3 pages will be like this 😉

I find it a good source of amusement and wonder if they actually know how stupid they make themselves look? I think they forget to ask themselves the "am i being a dick" question before they hit the post button 😆

I had a look on there when I bought a canoe a few years ago (2013?) & found everyone polite & helpful with none of the sometimes immediate slagging/piss taking you get on here. Seemed like nice informative people who were keen to pass on their knowledge.

I didn't last long & sold the canoe without using it earlier this year. 🙄

Song of the paddle is all the beardy weirdy open canoe types. Kind of like a Jones handlebar or singlespeed enthusiast afloat*

Ukriversguidebook is more for those whom shred the gnar, huck their meat off waterfalls etc. Radical gnarpoon shredders, you know, like everyone on here*

Post of the thread, genius. Toos even you @perchy

As to the thread title, yes definitely. For all the positive stuff there is around bikes, mental health and illness there is a significant and dark intolerance of religion and political views. STW would be much better if those topics where banned or MUCH more proactively moderated (which it too much work for volunteers so better banned)

Counter view; this place is great for allowing honest and intelligent conversation about various mainstream but frankly bizarre mass held opinions; just because a lot of people think it doesn't mean it shouldn't be challenged with evidence and logic. I think that Jambalaya's above butt hurt comes from the fact that in the 'real world' people don't challenge odd but mainstream views because 'manners', but here daft opinions presented as facts get the treatment they deserve. Some of the best thread topics have been 'controversial' recently, yet almost everyone managed to keep discussions civil, refrain from ad homs and generally present opposing views in an entertaining and mature fashion. STW; you've grown up a bit; well done!

Modding is just right imho. (Except for that Cougar bloke; he's a knob 😉 )

The contrary view is that extreme political views must be challenged at every opportunity...

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Religion...

Fishy zydeco stew-face is confusing "intolerance" with arguing robustly against the silly thing.

A sort of semi-jambafact, in his usual manner...
