You know the thing - you need an "x" and the only way to buy one x is to buy a box of 200. For me, its grub screws - I'm grub screw rich. Anyone need a grub screw?

And what do you have 00's of when you only needed one - I'm up for swapsies.

Disc Brake rotors, I always seem to have every possible option under the sun apart from the one I need at that exact moment, so another one gets added to the pile.

Circlips for Pace forks, Pace wanted lots of money so that big bag from engineering shop was only slightly more than buying two from Pace.

This is what is stopping me buying 200 roll pins in assorted sizes just for the one I need.

Circlips, washers, split pins, springs.  I have several selection boxes of these, but still fail to find the size I want at times.

Chainrings. The posh ones on the bikes, and the stock ones they replaced, plus ones that were made obsolete by the move to boost, plus ones that were legit worn out that might (never) come in handy.

must be 2 dozen to cover 6 bikes

Biking gloves. Any spares I bought just vanished into various locations around the garage. I knew they were there, but it took me losing a single glove (now found...) to track them all down - at least, I think I've tracked them all down... Not helped by buying some to make up orders for free postage etc or simply just bargains.

8 pairs.

FFS I've only got two hands.

Is 12 hoovers too many?

I mean I've got 12 in my possession. 17 if I count the ones I've loaned (mostly permanently) to other people.

Grommets for metal electrical back boxes. Next time I have an electrician round to do any work, he's getting gifted a box of 200  198 of the things!

Also spoke nipples. When I reuse hubs on new rims I just chop the spokes. New spokes I buy tend to come with new nipples but I can't bring myself to throw the old ones.

Also spoke nipples.

More specifically for me, DT Squorx alloy nipples. DT rims are supplied with them along with the washers, but I always substitute in the brass equivalent. Can't bring myself to get rid of them though.

Tools. Engineer cabinet drawer full of spanners and sockets. Other one is full of pliers, cutters and snips. Other cabinet is woodworking router cutters(about £2k worth) and chisels, about £1k worth.

And routersx3 pro drillsx4 sanders x4 every bloody woodworking machine you think you might need. AND i need more. I need a new 14" bandsaw(£1200) New tablesaw(£900 or £1200) Domino jointer(£900) and replace my tracksaw that cost £650, with a different one that costs £900.

Then theres the bikes and bike stuff. 4 bikes, two of them Ebikes. 6 sets of wheels-26",27.5" and 29" Loads of new Hope stuff. Brakes, hubs, everything they did from yesteryear that fills to very large storage boxes. Bars, cranks drivetrain stuff, much of which is new.

Yes , i know ive got a problem 😆

The alloy ones are actually OK. My commute bike has been through 3 winters with them, and although I don't ride on the worst days, they've seen damp and salt. Whatever coating they put on them really seems to do the job.

(Sorry, wildly off topic).

The inner tubes I keep putting to oneside to fix/check on a rainy day.  I tidied the shed at the weekend as well and found more....loads more!

And I typically do not really get punctures just the one or so a year.

So these have been put aside for quite a while.

Phew, thanks for that. I feel I'm in a safe enough place to admit I actually used the alloy ones to build a set of wheels years ago. Due to impatience and a lack of brass ones to hand. No issues, they work fine. But cos they're not brass I've never admitted that until now 🤣

Lack of motivation...but suspect this is the wrong thread as I can't seem to get rid of it!

On a more on topic point, I seem to have collected a lot of broken bike bits that may be used for salvage to fix something down the line...except it never comes about that I need to salvage bits. All small and now out dated bits.

Similarly, I've a wee storage racking system filled with lots of wee bits my grandfather used when he was making stuff. That gene never got passed down and I can bear to throw it all away but it genuinely will never get used again - most of it is imperial-sized and very small!

Aware none of that is something I've bought multiples of for just 1, but it just seems to collect mass and never gets smaller!

Front mechs, gear outer cable offcuts ( all just too short to be the next short piece I’ll need) and jars.

Well, the garage seems full of bags of jars; jam jars, coffee jars, kilner jars , all over the bloody place. Mrs CFSB makes the odd bit of pickle and chutney. It seems that for every jar she gives away three empty ones appear and she never increases production.

There have been many discussions about what might happen to them, but I’m rapidly running out of room for front mechs.

Shimano cable outer, I bought the big shop pack, it'll last me the rest of my life. Though at the same time it <is> only one.

(I still keep all the offcuts and spares and reuse old stuff whenever I can, it's an illness)

I once bought 100 x M4 bolts by mistake (meant to buy 10), there's 96 of them still in my garage somewhere. I keep buying frame plugs, washers, o-ring kits, straps and other stuff I'll probably never use but don't want to be without in case I ever do need them. I also partly blame AliExpress.

The irony is i genuinely did need a fair amount and this was significantly cheaper than buying a meter.

GT85. I used to use this plenty on bikes a long time ago before I knew better. I bulk bought. Now I have a dozen cans on the shelf which I will never use. Occasionally I use a little to clean up a presta valve thread that's a little corroded / gunked up.

Anyone want some of the old PTFE gt85?

Nail clippers? actualy, does having two pairs count as loads, because I have two pairs.... I had a good pair, could not find them, bought another pair of exactly the same, then found the first pair down the back of the sofa.

Other than that, I think I have more sports-related socks than I really need.

Pint glasses, a mate pulled the plug on his pub and I just wanted maybe 5 but had to take them all over 150

I've given a few away and used one last night when cleaning out the Rancilio, still washed it out

I lost the two screws for my Fox 38 mudguard. Managed to find out the correct size via Google, but could I find them for sale separately?

A bag of 100 later and it is fitted.

B&Q sells loose screws like a pick 'n' mix, priced at how many you can fit into a baggie.

What do these look like? I've been looking for some flattish screws for attaching mudguard flaps.

I've had a box of general DIY odd-job tat from my mum's house for about 10 years. Being in a new build myself, I couldn't see a use for it and finally decided it's just taking up space, binned it.

The next week my niece moved into an old house with all kinds of odd-job DIY jobs needed 😐

Stuff I have loads of that I can locate when I need a specific bike-related bit or piece: nothing.

Meant to order 380kg, instead ordered 380 boxes.

In the early days of internet grocery shopping my dad was a bit of an early adopter.

Amongst the things he regularly ordered were some particularly nice herby cod fishcakes. Usually sold in packs of 4

Doing his order one day he went to add the fishcakes to his basket - deciding to order 2 packs.

Having clicked '2' he realised they were actually on promo and were being sold as 2 packs for the price of one.

So he deleted '2' and typed '1'... he thought. But the text field was really small and only displayed one digit at a time.

Come delivery day 168 fishcakes arrived with his order 🙂

Trainers not sure exactly how many pairs but I’ll buy more soon.

Yup, nuts and bolts as Screwfix is so cheap to buy them in 100s.

Coats of various types and styles despite normally wearing the same 2.

T-shirts but surely everyone has dozens of them.

I was leaving a show once, and there was a kid outside handing out tiny little spray cans of Three-in-One oil. He looked really fed up, and I asked how long he would be there. He said until he gets rid of all the oil so I offered to take a couple of cans off him. He said I could have boxes of the stuff if I wanted it so I left with four boxes of a dozen cans of oil. I have given out loads, but I have still got an unopened box of twelve sat on the shelf in the garage.
