Probably been done before but - unnecessary changes with software updates - why the eff is it necessary to change the swipe direction for answering phone calls or turning alarm off and don't get me started on how it seems to be chewing up much more battery now 🤬

Cats. So cute. So dumb.
I put out two bowls of food. Cat 1 starts feeding from Bowl A. Instead of eating from Bowl B, Cat 2 sits looking longingly at Bowl A. How did they ever evolve this far?

I have a Microsoft Word document.

Delivered by a Microsoft Outlook email account.

Viewed in a Microsoft Edge web browser.

Held on a Microsoft OneDrive cloud service.

So why in the everloving **** is it so hard to open it in the Microsoft Word desktop app that I* pay money for?  Why is "use Word to open Word files" not just default behaviour?!

(* - don't, but shush)

Also whilst we're here,

Adobe can get ****ed as well.  I'd use your 'browser plugin' if it actually worked in any sort of meaningful fashion, like being reliably capable of sending a sentence to a piece of paper; as it is, it's an afternoon's work to unpick the ****er.  Again.  Creative Cloud, the hard disk in the PC I'm actually working on is not "other storage," it's ****ing D:\.  Get in the sea.  Your free free 7-day trial has expired?  SURPRISE so have all your documents!  A pox on both their houses.

I love technology, but I swear that anyone involved in design should be forced to use their own products.  No-one - NO-ONE - in Adobe outside of marketing beancounters looked at Acrobat and thought "yep, that's a good idea."  It's horrendous and the rot is contagious.

I feel I may have posted this before, but seeing as we are having a Microsoft bash, I'd love to know what the justification is for "new" Outlook having you left click on a word to correct the spelling, when every single other piece of software in know existence (including all their own) - it is a right click to correct spelling.

30 years of muscle memory means I don't think I'm ever going to get it right first click.

Related: app updates which then demand you re-enter your credentials. I'm looking at you Zwift, but there are many others which consider this acceptable behaviour 🙁

Every time there’s an OS update on mobile devices, the battery life takes a hit, every time it’s explained that the battery drain is because all the file directories and everything else have to be completely checked through to make sure that everything is functioning properly, then the next time there’s an update, people complain about the battery life taking a hit, etc, etc, ad nauseum. 😒

"Mobile devices"?  What, all of them?

First I've heard of this explanation.

The text is arguably forgivable if you don't want the hit of completely redesigning buttons but WTF is going on with the numbers?

Both Ford and Vauxhall went through a period where the dashboard was covered in a rash of silly little buttons, that were impossible to use when driving - I drove a lot of them when I was with BCA, and I hated them.

Thankfully, the next generation had cleaned up the whole mess and made everything much clearer and easier to use. The first EcoSport I drove, I immediately felt at home in it, the driving position felt spot-on for me, it was quite an engaging car to drive, but the interior was like a Ka, a load of stupid little buttons with no thought given to layout. Understandably so, it was designed as a Crossover for Third-World countries, and wasn’t well received in Europe. When it was updated with the same interior as the Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Kuga and Puma, I promptly went and bought one.
A lot of cars now have the same irritating sort of design for the dash, except it’s all touchscreen, and even more difficult to use, and far more dangerous. 🤬

That’s the whole subscription business ideology right there - it’s never intended to be of any benefit to the user, it’s all about guaranteed income streams. Car manufacturers are doing their utmost to force it onto consumers, build features into their vehicles, but force customers to then pay x-amount every month for the right to use it.

BMW tried it with Apple CarPlay - if you wanted to use it, you had to pay BMW, but the thing is, every other company installed it for free. BMW had to back down, but they are all trying it with other features.

Yeah, that really doesn't sit well with me either.

Like, you buy something, there will be a cost associated with that.  Materials, manufacturing, design and all the other elements that go into (say) making a car.  A premium product will command a higher price because it has extra features or higher quality components.  All fair enough.  Here though you've already bought the premium product, the net cost between the two is zero.

It's no doubt Not That Simple, but it feels wrong.  With something like Adobe's Creative Cloud, aside from the fact that it's garbage you can at least justify a rolling cost to keep the servers running or to cover development of new features.

That can’t be right. Dog owners always pick up after their pets. They’ve frequently told me so.

After some much needed rain, I'm now looking at a lawn that has sprouted a variety of vegetation so I need to waste an hours riding time this afternoon cutting it before tomorrow's rain.

LOL, need is the last word I'd be using in that scenario. No wait, I'll fix it for you:

I need to ride my bike for an hour.

There being no 'last page' button to jump to the last page in a thread 😜 (probably already been mentioned but there are 60 pages here!)

Also, neighbour leaving their bathroom window light on all night, which shines into my bedroom window. Have had to get a blackout blind.

And another neighbour that doesn't use the food or recycling bins. Their choice, but bugs me no end 😬😄

This is precisely why I gave up attempting to cook lentils.  The window you get between filling-cracking and slurry where you actually have "food" is far too small for my attention span.

Ah, that's what that means. Though you have to be on the list of threads. Within the thread I just worked out you can select the page number box and there's a dropdown list of page numbers, scroll to the bottom and select that.

Having both tjagain and tjmoore on this forum - how many usernames does the guy need?

Spent this morning taking my parents round garden centres as the cover for their stackable garden chairs has ripped. We could find covers for every pretentious oversized arrangement of out door furniture but nope, no one sells a simple cover for stacking chairs any more. Dad will be adding to Amazons profits this afternoon.

We're definitely unrelated 😄

I used to be deadkenny though but binned that as got bored of South Park. Though some thought it was deadkennedys related. I couldn't come up with an interesting name, so just went with my initials and surname.

Parents again.

This past week we have had two whinging. One because they failed to send their kid to school with a coat. It slashed it down, not just a bit of drizzle so, because of this child and several others in another class we had to bring the kids off the play ground when they could have stayed out if this child was properly dressed. The child got a damp sweatshirt because we cannot instantly bring a school full of kids off the yard and hers was one of the little gits who ignore every adult. At the same time we had  parents moaning that we didn't let the kids have a full play time. One of those parents was the owner of the coatless child.

Another complains that their child has come home stressed. If, complaining mum had sent to school the kids medication as required, the child would have had the quiet day they usually have. No meds, because mum forgot to get them. She lives 50 yards from the doctors who actually give them to her, doesn't work and drives past the surgery to bring the kid to school. Next day. Same thing. Friday. He can't come to school because I forgot. She drove in to tell us that!

Shall I go on?

I think you're being cross is not disproportionate, and if you go on, I will feel the need to hunt these moronic parents down on your behalf.

MrsMC is a Guide leader and is supposed to be helping at a Brownie sleepover next month, that was arranged with a local attraction and involves fireworks. The whole event - and the deposits paid -  is now in jeopardy as one of the kids is apparently terrified of fireworks and her and her mum no longer want to attend.

Dear reader, the mum involved is the ****ing Brownie leader who arranged the event in the first place.

After 25 years as a leader, MrsMC has reached the Murtaugh "I'm too old for this shit" Tipping Point

Dad will be adding to Amazons profits this afternoon.

Seems increasingly to be the default option. I was after some circlip pliers the other day, and quite close to both a B&Q and a Halfords, but came away empty handed from both. Amazon delivered them same day...I don't want to give Jeff my money, but at the same time other shops are making it increasingly hard not to.

As my dad used to say "I'm not cross I'm just disappointed".

Printers and the associated software.

For the love of god why , just why does it have to be so bloomin hard to scan and email a document?

Computer .- I cant see the printer . Are you blind? Its there , right next to you. Steve Wonder could see it. Its the big black rectangular box of hamsters with paper sticking out the back.

Printer.- Cannot connect to computer, Is the correct software uploaded

So i reload the HP updated software, again. Its all fluffy and has pictures of various idiots whose life has been irrovoculy advanced by the ability to scan and print a peice of paper. But they are obviuosly AI fakes or the love children of Charles Babbage and Bill Gates.

Why do HP need my age, location , inside leg measurement etc just to enable a few lines of code so one of their printers  can talk to a laptop. I am not trying to do anything a 9yr old can do in 3 seconds , But I cant . After over an hour of pastel blue backgounds, and super happy smiling people who get enrichment form transfering letters to a peice of paper I gave up . Hit CTRTL P , placed the document in an envelope and posted it to intended recipient .

Screw you Hewlett Packard Printer. I know you are a sentient evil being sent here to  destroy mankind one cyan cartridge at a time.

I don't envy you.

My partner is a WFH childminder of 3-year olds.  When there's only two of them they're golden.  As soon as there's three in the house, one randomly decides to be a petulant asshole.  It then all turns on a dime into Monkey See Monkey Do and it's clucking bedlam.

Our boy can be a defiant shitbag, see above.  One girl is desperate to be Alpha Female, she wants to instruct everyone else what to do, all of the time.  So she goes "put this hat on," he goes "NO!" she won't get out of his grill so he lamps her one and then all ****ing hell breaks loose.  My other half is a trooper, excellent at her job, but the flashpoint for all this would rival Olympic athletics split timings.  It goes from "haven't we had a lovely morning" to Squid Game The Prequel inside a fraction of a second.  I'd leave them to battle royale it out but apparently there are "laws" about that sort of thing.

Social media influencers claiming their 30s post with a short snappy sentence is the key thing they learned after ten years developing a difficult skillset that only a minority of people ever reach any proficiency at. It's just a short sequence of words representing one tiny aspect, a post-achievement representation. It will do next to nothing to shorten the length of time people will need to reach the same level of achievement.

Slightly more seriously, how ****ed up is this:

New government legislation means that the kids have to have healthy food.  So far so froody, we've been making home-cooked meals for ages and who doesn't want 'good' food for kids?

But it's taken to the absurd.  We can't use Ragu/Dolmio, we have to use passata.  If the parents decide that they don't want their kids to have our dinners and instead send them in with their own food, she now has to inspect it and override the parents.  Sending them in with a six pack of Snickers is one thing of course, but how the actual f are you supposed to deconstruct soup?

Halfords car bulb section.

There are probably 6m of bulb shelf in the one I visited today.

I reach out for the ubiquitous H7's and the word "LED" catches my eye on the box. I know these are not road legal.

Oh look there's a little sign about the size of my palm saying "not legal for the road" or words to that effect.  Actually there's a couple of those signs dotted across the disproportionately large part of the aisle that is dedicated to them.

Just what is the demand for off road only LED headlight bulbs in suburbia and why does a high street retailer feel it necessary to sell this stuff?  The majority of these are out there dazzling other road users rather than being used for (what?) legitimate off road purpose.
