Looking for one, or maybe two stoppoffs to break the journey. Not camping, not formula 1. Want something where we don't need to unload the van and don't need to worry about all our stuff being nicked.

Ideally a very quiet gite....

Stopped in Troyes before, there was a hotel on the main road that had an underground carpark and was very secure.

Ooh, tell me more. Oik1 wants to stop at the Caarhartt outlet in Troyes?

Another vote for Troyes. We have stayed in the Ibis which has a secure underground carpark, have left bikes on the back in the carpark overnight and not worried. Not sure about ceiling height. Nearby is the Mercure which is also an Accor chain hotel, but a bit more upmarket than ibis. They also have parking with a height limit.

We stopped off in Reims this year. Absolutely lovely wee place, will go back, need to do a champagne house or 2.

styaed at the new holiday inn express and suites, which was excellent. Short walk into the town centre. big secure underground car park there too (and free EV chargers which proved v handy).

Kyriad was the hotel we stayed at, nothing bad about the hotel at all and a lovely stroll into town for dinner. Also, there's a town market which was great for baked goods in the morning, again a short walk from the hotel. We stopped off as a single stop from Cambridge to Chamonix, it felt like a long drive to get there, but it was probably as sensible a stop off point a s anywhere.

As Reims has been mentioned above it would be remiss of me not to mention my favourite Champagne house too Jean Michel pick a place to stay nearby and book in a tasting. It's a lovely quiet area round there too, we've stayed at La lodge before which was also a Champagne house.

I stayed in a "serviced apartment in Bannes" I found on air BnB. It was daft cheap on a campsite with somewhere to eat and get breakfast. Not far from autoroute was so much better than the F1 we stayed at for the return leg and not much more cost wise.

Another recommendation for Troyes, really nice town center, good choice of resturants etc

Probably not suitable for the OP because its street parking but we normally stay here: https://troyes-royal.brithotel.com/

because its a lot nicer than.. a) what it looks like on the website, b) you'd expect from the price.

Yep, Brithotel Troyes is where we stopped last year. They have a secure car park directly opposite which you need to book ahead.
