Used to use GPS when racing kite buggies to see max speed

Surfing one is a bit pointless.. Wave count and distance ridden not really indicative of a good surf

I've used strava for whitewater kayaking.

I tried it on an East Coast mainline Intercity 125 once, mainly to see if it was actually doing 125mph. Very nearly was, and my calorie burn over a 3 mile track was immense at that speed. Who'd have thought that train travel would be so condusive to weight loss? 😀

Doesn't work on the West Coast, think the posher trains have some kind of GPS defeating coating on the windows.

I would assume the above diagram shows how that particular spot should be surfed to best effect, rather than a competition..? I am not a surfer though.

Surfing gps is full stop the stupidest thing ever. Already seen gps plots from secret spots posted on facebook.

Also if you are surfing properly on a short board the gps won't be able to accurately measure your speed and distance as you'll be turning to much.

I can see how it's good for dinghy sailing, windsurfing etc.

That surfing plot is from Gabriel Medina who won the world championship last year so needless to say your average bloke wouldn't be catching that many waves etc.

You can mark an activity as yoga on strava now.

Not sure why you'd need to do that, but I'm so tempted to do it to my next ride just to see what happens.

Whilst I sympathise that 'your' spot may become busier, localism sucks. At least with dirtjumps there's an element of hiding it from the landowner, and a requirement to dig before you ride to make sure the place is kept tip-top. But surfing has non of those excuses.

With the exception of spots where there's a real element of danger it's purely selfish, and even if it is dangerous who died and made you god?

I believe he may be 'disrespecting', or 'dissing' in youth parlance said athlete.
