Without buying a load of new furniture (eg a proper lifting table / desk) as we live in a rented flat with furnishing.

I have a standing desk at work, but when at home I end up sitting somewhere because I lack an office.

There are plenty of the wooden slot-together portable hobbies - ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wooden-Standing-Desk-Stand-Up-Desk-Birch-Plywood-/274631426966?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0) - or expensive branded ones like 'harmoni' advertised on Facebook. Are they any good or do they fall apart pretty fast or wobble loads?

Any further recommendations? To fit a laptop, portable wireless mouse and keyboard.

I plonked an Ikea coffee table on my normal desk and chopped the legs.

These are all pretty heavy and non-portable. I have a varidesk at work, but do not plan to buy one for home. They're also pretty ugly.

Try kneeling at your normal desk. That's what I do when sitting gets too much.

I would have thought that was a joke but had noticed kneeling feels pretty good when I tried it. How long can you sustain it without ending up with housemaid's knee or something?

Try kneeling at your normal desk.

Sounds like a Viz top tip.

Kneeling does sound like a Top Tip from Viz but I do it. I kneel on a quadrupled yoga mat for about 10 minutes. It is quite hard to keep a straight back without arm support but feels like a good excersize for posture/back strengthening.

Unfortunately those links are all about more permenant solutions, rather than converters and particularly inoffensive and inexpensive ones.

Gonna have to just pony up and return them if crap.

Get a laundry pulley above fixed to the desk and simply raise it up when you feel like standing.
