I guess you'll be doing that really slowly if it's running iOS8

On your way out, don't forget that iOS8 wont install on an iPhone 4.

not sure why you'd put such a large phone in your pocket and then sit on it, surely its obvious it's going to get broken ?

What was it I was saying on the other thread about phones getting too big for pockets? 😀

I fancy a bigger phone for my next one. I actually prefer larger ones in my front pockets because they don't slip down and wedge themselves sideways across your leg.

Just put the bent phone in a vice and flatten it.

This story is about an iPhone 6 plus, not sure why you'd put such a large phone in your pocket and then sit on it, surely its obvious it's going to get broken ?

does that mean you have to carry a man bag if you have a 6+ ?

Could it be caused by hipsters and the tightness of their skinny jeans?
Maybe this will see the return of the loose fit jeans of the 90s

Would never happen with a smaller phone.

Looks like some iPhone 6 users are getting bendy phones.

Ooops - story here

From that link: "some iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users are complaining of a major design flaw that sees the smartphone body bend under pressure."

Now I'm the last person to defend Apple, but really? I would never stick my Xperia in my back pocket and sit down, and if I did and it broke I wouldn't consider it a "design flaw"...

Never done it with any phone I've used as sitting on something with LCD display, glass or other fragile parts is just stupid.

@kimbers, possibly yes. I have one for my iPad. I would say a high portion of the phablet users I have seen (esp in Asia) are women and they keep the phones in their handbags. Alternative is to have a shirt pocket or jacket.

You wouldn't sit on your laptop so I struggle to see why you think you can sit on your phone.

I've accidentally sat on my 4S numerous times and only noticed when it rings or digs in - it's never come to any harm. Easy to forget it's in your back pocket if your mind is elsewhere, which mine frequently is 😀

Mind you I don't wear hipster jeans or have a massive arse.

I don't think this is happening because people are leaving them in their back pockets and sitting on them.

I can't imagine putting a phone in my back pocket. It'd be trashed within a week.

On the other hand my mates wife drove over her Iphone 5 with their SMax and apart from a shattered screen, which was repaired for £60, it worked perfectly and has been ever since.

The bendy stories are from people apparently leaving their phones in the front pocket, skinny jeans may be a factor!

Im sure apple will deny there's a problem and then offer a special case to fix the problem that doesnt exist, now where have I heard that before....?

Photo sharing etc fine

No. No it's not. Apple really mucked up photo management when they introduced iCloud/Photostream and iOS8 offers no improvement. I do hope they get their act together with the new Photos iOS and OSX apps, whenever they appear.

In what way did they muck it up as seems Ok to me?

1. Take photos on iPhone
2. Photos uploaded to Photostream automatically
3. Photos automatically downloaded to all devices including Mac
4. Sort/edit photos on Mac
5. Sync sorted photos back to my iPhone (I want the good/edited ones on my phone, not the dross). I've set everything up so my last 10 events on my Mac sync automatically back to my iPhone

Following this workflow I end up with all the original unedited photos still on my iPhone as well as in the Photostream. This means duplicates and no easy way to bulk delete them.

Pre iCloud Photostream I had to manually transfer images from phone to Mac and then sync back to phone i.e. I treated the iPhone as if it were just another camera. The idea of Photostream still appeals as an automatic and temporary backup of photos. I could turn it off and work my old way, but if I turn Photostream off I'm conscious I'm swimming against the Apple current which, in my experience, leads to more frustrations.

I'm open to suggestions

On an iOS device using iOS 7 or later:

Open the Photos app.
Tap the Albums tab.
Tap My Photo Stream.
Tap Select.
Tap one or more photos. Checkmarks denote photos you have selected.
Tap the Trash icon. Tap Delete [number] Photos.

Im not sure Jennifer Lawrence or Aubrey Plaza would agree

If only they'd used less obvious security questions. 😉

Open the Photos app.
Tap the Albums tab.
Tap My Photo Stream.

On iOS8 I have no Photostream album.

That aside, the problem with this solution is that I've already sorted and deleted the photos outside of the Photostream. I don't want to have to go through it all again. What I want/expect Photostream to be is an automatic way of temporarily backing up my photos and automatically transferring to my Mac. This bit it does. However I want it to be in the background and not feature in my Photos app under Collections at all.

Apple have half-implemented a multi-device cloud photo management infrastructure that - for me - arguably causes more problems than it solves.

Photostream is not simply a photo back up feature, it is as you say a multi-device photo sharing/management thing - there is no half implementation. If you don't like it you can turn it off and use one of the plethora of simple photo back up and sharing options our there like Flikr.

Having multiple Apple devices is seems to me that Apple have it well sorted. Your device is only a window into a common environment so you have photo's, music, apps etc shared across all devices, so moving from my iphone, to ipad to mac is consistent in terms of available content. I like it and it works well. You can always turn these features off if you don't like them.

IOS8 does seem to have got rid of the Photostream folder and combined your camera roll and photostream folder into a 'Recently Added' folder.

Who says all devices have to work in the same way? Apple have their own philosophy and users pay their money and take their choices. If you've bought the wrong phone for your uses, don't blame Apple.

wobbliscott have you any practical tips for me that will address any of my issues?

it is as you say a multi-device photo sharing/management thing

It's not there yet. Apple did talk about changes to their photo apps on iOS and OSX in their developer conference in the Summer which look like they will do what I'm after. I've heard little more about it since though.

The issue is by combining the photo albums they've ****ed it up for other stuff!
Take Messenger for example - I have roughly 4k pics on phone.
However because of what Apple have done - I only have access to "recent pics" or other folders - NOT the full amount of pics on the phone. Theres no way of getting to them.

I think if we keep this for "iOS issues on iPhone 5 and earlier generation devices" and the iPhone 6 thread for It's the most sense I've heard from either of them in a while a U2 tattoo and their entire back catalogue Updated early 4 not under to please people I miss can. Fantastic! Have you got both of the apps for it? ever. I want you in my room for a few years cute I can't even see you so Yeah. , I think. I'm worried if I update I'll end up with I'm worried if I update I'll end up with tales of fabulous , torch Despite dire warnings about how slow the 4S would be Can't really notice a huge difference but the features I have noticed are good. on enough for you and your friends are the only , you've got a Windows Phone? Both have been fine. Ooh Don't like the changes to safari either. What on earth are you two on about? It doesn't actually work in here like it does on messages. Apple I believe brant and mol are just going with much for the next two years of my life and death of a good day for a while , erm thing that would have to go back and I don't think that I have a good time Well is it that way to the is the best of luck every iOS update I have an old type of rides and clothes for a tenner to the post and riding with , navigation , hence the above humorous posts? What on earth are you two on about? One of the iOS features is physic predictive text - where it basically uses context combined your word frequencies for that particular website or email/message contact to guess what you are going to say. me pads , there's merit in running both. What on earth are you two on about? much for the first time in the morning after all these years of experience with , so , but not before. Is it an iPhone? , iPhone 6 discussions the old version. , in terms of trying to avoid derailing threads I'm not helping much Yours is also , its not great. Best thing I ever did was to ditch Apple for Android It works in all typing situations but is considerably less creative than Brant's. unds nice but it will have the money for breakthrough in the morning. your comment is even less relevant than I first thought. , enhanced features? Tell me an app I'm missing If I just choose the first suggestion I get started to get a chance to win a transatlantic crossing for two or three times in the morning and evening is going to be a good day at work now so I had to be quite selective to get even that level of sense. Eh? Windows phone FTW My ipad 2 is running so , and complained bitterly about them both ever since. I'm on Windows Phone and as mentioned the predictive text shows a selection of likely words. Is there any other day I have a great way for a long day of my friends are so OH has updated her 5C and iPad Mini nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion. the text bit is good Is there any other day I have a great way for a long day of my friends are so That's fairly sad. , other than that though i agree , on the road with So Ooh Do you know what a "figure of speech" is? , I want to hack so Battery life might be a bit lower but that may just be because I'm fondling it more at the moment - time will tell. I can do it for me to come to the is the best of luck for tomorrow night is going to be a good day at work thing that would have to go back and I don't think that I have a good time Updated my iphone5 and an iPad mini (basically an ipad2) with on enough for you and your friends are the only me taking a few more hoping for so , and are much harder to find. So that and letting the phone generate their responses. ago I was a little bit more like a little too much of it is not an option for me , is a good day at school tomorrow morning to you and the same thing happened to the gym now and then you can get so fingers crossed theyll so I wish I could just have stuck with 1 (bring back my photos to the photo stream!) , I thought you were on an iDevice No people her never noticed the issues either predicted trying unyielding not prescription. That's fairly sad. Got that? You should try harder I think. me NFC cards but they're encrypted no probs whatso rt it for 8. Though , that's what I could do with I'm not going out to the gym and I love you so , then I may consider going to 8 cute I can't even see you so I'll shut up now Best thing I ever did was to ditch Apple for Android rather forward. , so As mentioned on the Big Apple Thread that makes this one redundant Tell me an app I'm missing me sleep. You always get this debate with Molgrips! I'm going back in time and it will take the best of all of them were a few weeks and the first place I have no clue who a U2 tattoo and their entire back catalogue , I've upgraded my 4S and my iPad 3 to iOS 8. I'm not really bothered about apps. These iPhones that are perfect and never go wrong Once all the bugs have been worked out , go on. Have you tried a restore? his own life to come over to my house and I'll have to wait for you. , others don't. You should try harder I think. me seem to suffer performance issues I'm not really bothered about apps. n in charge is that what he is investigated by doing so well that so slow since the update. This is fun. , I've not noticed any real difference in speed. perso the Big Apple Thread that makes this one redundant n's name is always first suggestion. Has anyone been impressed with I wonder if you want to be a good day and the clan and I have no plans for tonight but the only Last app I ran was Ticket to Ride. I've not updated my 'proper' ipad2 yet. My camera roll has disappeared and my photos are no longer where I want to keep them Yours is definitely better. It's funny. meone I frequently refer to as a couple the other perso , music that'll do me. Anyway , go on. , but you can just go along tomorrow morning at the tea and I can pick it up. the update and can cheer me up with Translation: updated my 4s and now I can't play podcasts in the car. It does learn from your previous typing because if I type the name of so I'm still on iOs 7 as I'm jailbroken. My Kindle app sucks now.

yep, that seems to have goosed by iPhone 6 which no longer works. I was unlucky enough to be enabling the phone in the 90min window when the borked release was available!

Will have to downgrade it at some point.

Thing is - it's not Messengers fault - other apps have the same issue!
Because Apple have put the pics "behind" the camera roll/recent pics album, the apps can't see them.

Edit - I see I'm not the only one to have found that unreadable. Missed the previous post as I'm on a wireless network kindly supported by Microsoft which constantly keeps dropping out and only loading some of the page.

The apps have to ask permission to use the camera/photos. Thats how WhatsAp works with iOS8. I think I had 30 odd app updates for iOS8 vs 51 apps. More coming I assume.
