had a 6500 slide which i really like, for the last 18 months now, so my contracts up. havent seen anything i like until i spotted the new sony ericsson w995. its sposed to be a cracking phone, but ive given it a try, and i just dont get on with it. keeps losing signal at work, and i just dont like the general interface :-/

i need to find something quick as i only get 7 days to change my mind. after trying somethings different, im thinking stick with what you know now, which is nokia.

so........any ideas based on what i want below?

decent camera, ideally 3.2 megapixel camera or above.
i liked the wi-fi aspect of the 995, so hopefully something with that?
fair bit of storage.
large screen? bigger than 2.5"?
normal keypad.
good battery life.
nice and light. and slim(ish)

things i dont like? dont really like the plastic look of the n95 is it? big, bulky, plastic looking things (apologies to anyone whos got one :-))

been looking at the n96, as that looks quite nice. does it have a keypad and wi-fi?
also looking into 5800 at the mo.

id happily stick with another 6500 slide i reckon, altho now ive played with wi-fi, id like to try and keep that if possible:-)

i quite like the look of the samsungs (tocco ultra?), but they seem to be either touchscreen only or reports from mates charging the batteries every day which i dont want.

thanks for any suggestions 🙂

cheers

hmmm im liking the 5800 the more i read about it. how do you find you get on with no keypad? do you use a little stylus jobbie on a virtual keyboard? or is it touchscreen keypad? and how fiddly is it to text people? keep pressing the wrong letters by mistake?

also i read dorset knobs suggestion of an iphone, but now its disappeared. does that mean he edited it and deleted? or is my pc playing up? :-/

touchscreen works well - you can just use your fingers most of the time, but there's a stylus as well for texting with a full screen qwerty keyboard. it's really quick once you get used to it.

also i read dorset knobs suggestion of an iphone

I deleted it cos I didn't want to start another blooming iPhone slagging thread 🙂

But I reckon it's the best bet, and I'm a long time Nokia user as well. Seems to tick all your boxes except for not having a traditional keyboard. I think the iPhone keyboard is better though, especially now you can use it in landscape mode.

5800 is very good, getting on well with mine 🙂 Touch screen works well, qwerty k/board is great, best to use the stylus with it, dialler pad is big enough for fingers.

Another 5800 user here. No problems with it all. The one big thing that it has over the iPhone (for me anyway) is the cost. You don't need an iLoan to pay for it up front (at least the new one) and you're not limited to £300* pound a month contracts either.

I don't use the qwerty keyboard much, I just use the alphanumeric option (without the stylus). Very easy to change between them though. It just works. Even managed to set up wifi in the office which requires some crazy settings.

*May be a slight exaggeration.

Not sure. When I got mine there were "red" and "blue". I think the difference was pretty clear. If you can, get one of the "Come With Music" ones. Seems like a good deal (i.e. you can download DRM-free music for free for the first 12 months).

I was steered away from the N95 & 96 and ended with a very nice E 71.

Apparently the Nokia N Range has a real bad reputation whereas the E series which was designed for business tends to have all the bugs removed before release ( according to sales fella in shop ).

Any how I like the E 71, does everything I want and more

by the way, the site that i linked to is basically the bible of phones - a bit over the top and snooze-worthy after a while, but nothing if not comprehensive. they're all on there.

another vote for e71 and also derision of HTC. You'll get used to the qwerty pretty fast, it's surprisingly usable given the size. I can type on it nearly as quickly as a full size keyboard.

Renoir is potentially a good phone if its wasn't so slow at doing everything and it has zero (very few anyway) applications. Arena sounds like a good phone, better than the Iphone in so many ways but no apps either really hinders it IMO.
Sony Ericsson has a 2 new phones releasing in a couple of months called Satio and Aino that I'm very interested in.

no i really dont like the look of that E71, sorry 🙂

thought the renoir looked ideal too, until i read the reviews. doesnt seem to have the reliability or customer service of the 5800, which im thinking is the one to go for 🙂
