Terrible news, it does indeed cause us to pause to think of those around us. I cannot imagine how you must feel. Post as much or as little as you want. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your son

My heart goes out to you......and to your son, who must have been in a dreadful place emotionally.

I work with people who have had brain injuries, and so can explain neurorehab to you if it is helpful. My email address is in my profile.

Very best.

Much strength to you and your family, and my sincere wishes for a happy outcome.

He's young and strong, and medical science is surprisingly good.

Here's hoping he pulls through and one day in the future you can all look back and give thanks for it all working out.

I opened this earlier but "What a Waste" by Ian Dury came onto 6Music at the same moment and I left well alone. As a father who had a child attempt suicide in her teens you have my sympathy as nothing in the parenting manual (unwritten) can prepare you for it.

Lean on your friends and tell your immediate boss. It can be humbling receiving support from those you barely know as I found out. All thefts to you and Mrs pastit

All the best for your son.

You're not alone, one of the Wife's friends is currently suffering depression and has threatened to kill herself. Trying to get her professional help is proving very difficult as the local mental health team seem to be swamped / underfunded. To compound the situation, her parents seem completely indifferent to the situation which I just don't understand.

truly sorry to hear what's happened. depression is one of those illness's that doesn't get the recognition it needs in order to be able to treat it.
i've suffered from it for the last 15 years and i have had many of those dark days which is what has compelled your son to do this.
hopefully he will pull through and recover, after which you and your family will know what you are facing and be able to address it together.
in the meantime stay strong for one another...thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

All the best during this difficult time.
I've suffered from depression on and off for years despite and have had dark thoughts despite having a loving upbringing, a fantastic wife, and great friends. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't think too much about what you could of done or shouldn't of done in the past, but instead how you can be there for your son in the future.

This is awful. I really feel for you and this has made reflect on a few things. Much of my life has been blighted by depression but I found (with professional help) that it can be managed and looking back, getting through the last major episode made me way stronger than I ever thought I could be and better able to deal with the wobbles when they come along.

My thought are with you.

I'm really sorry to hear about this, it's so sad.
I work in brain injury rehabilitation, if you want to ask me anything feel free, I've worked with families in your situation more times then I care to remember. I know im a stranger but sometimes it's good to talk to someone who doesn't know you. I notice a lot of talk of depression, bare in mind he might not have been depressed, though it is likely, it could have been any of a number of things.
The best piece of advice I can give is to keep a positive attitude but be realistic.
Remember feel free to pm me if you want to ask or talk, I'll gladly give you my number even.

Jeez, what a shitty situation dude! I have nothing to add that would help but just sticking my name on the list to say sorry to hear about what's happened and hoping things work out, however long it takes.

Just awful to hear. All the best that things turn out as well as they can from here on.

And to echo what a couple of others have said, sharing on here is definitely a good thing to do.

Depression is a horrible thing to have to suffer, my Mum has it and I'm sure I have some of the same symptoms.

All the best OP, can't say anything apart from thinking of you.

All the best - words don't quite cover it I think. I have sons of a similar age & I really feel for you.

The next gen of our family (my eldest and my sis' eldest) have some issues and I think we've both imagined being in your situation, thankfully we've not been there so far.
