How is "owning with Bombers" a euphemism?

Hmmm... But it basically means "to own with a pair of Bombers"... So not a euphemism...

Now, "hammering the tight singletrack because the trail builders are busy on the red run..." THAT, my friend, is a euphemism.

Well I like it and no-one outside STW would know what it means so it's a euphemism as far as I'm concerned.

Yours is very good too though.

That's not what a euphemism is though... I'm sure you can do better 😉

On a similar theme, I remember a friend referring to an ex girlfriend as having "liked to wear the blue jacket".

I had no idea what this means, but was told that in dog racing parlance, the dog in Trap 2 wears the blue jacket... 😳

Good grief.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euphemism

A euphemism is a generally innocuous word or expression used in place of one that may be found offensive or suggest something unpleasant... Euphemisms are used for dissimulation, to refer to taboo topics (such as disability, sex, excretion, and death) in a polite way, and to mask profanity.

Only on STW could we have a 'what's your favourite euphemism' discussion get sidetracked by what is and isn't a euphemism.

"Watching Badgers" seems appropriate here, they seem to be doing it on the Glencoe thread.

Going for the easy pink or the tight brown

It's all a bit school boy though, aye ??

( and no ... the last sentence isn't a euph 😆 )

What? Literally?

Yes. The person who coined the phrase interrupted a would-be bike thief with the heaviest things he had to hand.

Baker Street is the only station on the London underground where the brown line and pink line cross.

eg: "I changed at Baker Street last night, the missus was surprised at first but really enjoyed it.

Jay from the Inbetweeners: "going at it like a dog eating hot chips"

[pedant]This is a "simile", not a euphemism... As would be "I walked in to find him on his hands and knees, lapping away like thirsty dog at a puddle"
[/pedant]

My favourite from Jackspeak is 'getting off at Fratton' to describe the withdrawal method of contraception, Fratton being the last train station before Portsmouth Harbour.

I imagine the extra station might be to ensure Jack remains particularly safe in the heat of the moment!!

From THIS THREAD "Couple of weeks ago he was knife deep in a lamb carcase" made me chuckle...

There was a classic on here sometime ago about going in the back door sas style. It even advocated the use of flash bangs, I chuckled about that for days.

I think it even resulted in a banning...?

IMHO If the phrase "back door" is ever banned from STW the amount of posts will halve overnight! 😆

"hammering the tight singletrack because the trail builders are busy on the red run..."

Similarly, and continuing the snooker theme: "when the red is over the pink, go for the brown."

Really? Any mention of 3rd Bn The Parachute Regiment usually has other connotations.

Think my favourite from the Profanisaurus was "She's at Gash Mark 6".

Or was it "Going for a monkey's fag break"...
