Had decided weeks ago that this year was it, the one first one I was going to choose to be on my own so that I could actually bloody well enjoy my day for once...
And I got duped!
Have managed to fake not feeling well to get out of a forced game of charades, to escape back to my Dad's spare room...
Next year the plan is, waifs and strays round mine, bung turkey in oven around 10am, go out for leisurely 3hr bike ride, get back and everyone chip in to get the meal ready... No families allowed, no enforced Christmassy bollox, and absolutely no present giving! Just some good grub, good company, and a bike ride... Who's in?
Solo and loving it, have read some of the horror stories on the relatives from hell thread, I really don't know why you put yourselves through all that crap...
Wine might come out a bit later, we'll see.

Have been spending solo Xmas for many years now so not sure what the fuss is all about. Peace and quietness ... eat, sleep and watch tv before resuming the rat race.
Solo here and it has been fine, lots of invites but couldnt be arsed with the stress, spoke to other half for an hour on the phone.
Weather a bit grim but a good day.
I'm joining it next year after today, see rantette in other thread.

Yup, solo by choice as I don't want to do the 'family christmas' of arguing, suppressed resentment, and expectations of tradition (see the 'vent about your in-laws' thread for numerous examples ...)
So first Christmas alone this year, had a lovely day so far - out with friends and a pack of dogs for a wild and windy hike over the mountains this morning, suitably fortified by mulled wine. Followed by a chilled afternoon on the beach watching the sunset. Now curled up on the sofa with the dog 🙂
Have been touched by all the loving messages of support and festive wishes from friends, so don't actually feel 'alone'!
We have no family here so it is awesome ! We hold an Xmas day for solos orphans and my mate Paul who hates his gfs family so much he comes here. Had a nice 3hr ride then a lovely arvo.
Been living the life of a commitment phobic for the last 10 years, so have been solo for about 7 of those years. To be honest I think Xmas is a time for families, couples, kids etc, so tend to just carry on as normal, do the family and friends bit, and generally quite enjoy it as most folk are a bit jollier than normal.
i am a miserable bad tempered geyt, who likes my own company too much, the rest of the year.
come christmas, i relax the cold miserly front and make my house a open house.
12 for dinner today, and looking like double that tomorrow for hot roast beef, pork and gammon buffett.
oh, and not 1 single argument or bad word from anyone all day.

Member of the self elected alone club. Had offers, but having my head in a miserable "why doesn't she want me" state of mind for the last few weeks, excile seemed for the best.
My father appears to have been "absorbed" by his new ladyfriend, and the idea of a night on a cathair covered sofa at my overheated sisters, wathing a grown mad (nephew) spending 14 hours on a ps3 without being able to watch/listen to anything other than a Carling led snorefest from my brother in law was doing my head in.
So I raise a glass of port to you all, (as I finished the wine a while ago with the 7 item veggie main course I did) but I have made the elementary mistake of doing mince pies and port and coffee before the cheese board! Guess I'll have to crack open that rather fine claret I was gifted with later then......
i signed up to Love Films 2 week trial and have been streaming movies to my xbox while getting a little merry.
I suppose you could say by choice (the wrong one, previously) fingers crossed for a better NYE eh 😀
Oh, and still laid up with about 6 stitches on my belly button so cant even get out for a ride!

Gave the day over to total gluttony.
Enormouse brekkie with bucks fizz.
Cooked a Lancashire Hot Pot for lunch. Enough for two meals. It was such a nommicular success that I wolfed the whole thing down in one sitting.
Mincies and cream later.
Whole day with accompanying and intermediate visits to the alcohol (Champers/Beer/Scotch/Port).
By the time seven o'clock rolled round, I was zonked.
Lovely.
