Alonso looks up, and... oh, Vettel just dribbled home.

Anti-climax...

Crap. How was Vettel master of that race? How was it a champions drive? Had that second sc not cropped up he'd have been third.

did your super 6th sense tell you that? He put in 54 laps on those tyres and Alonso didn't have a proper attempt at getting past, Button was just sitting in third like a spectator

Hamilton's doing a lot of bullying about. Is he the new MSC?

Come on though - he'd started the drop off the cliff. Well, at least he was peeping over the edge

had he? McLaren were stating he only had a handfull of laps before the drop off, at no point did his lap times drop by 3-4s.

Button was sitting in third waiting for Vettel's tyres to fall apart.

Vettel did what he had to, and a very good job he did of it, but it's hard not to think he was a very lucky boy. Disappointingly we'll never know.

And with plenty laps spare, could afford to watch the pair take each other out, rather than ending up being tangoed if Vettel and Alonso touched

sorry guys, but saying he was just sitting there is nonsense. And what if Vettels tyres didn't fall apart? Or what if they didn't take each other out? He'd still be sitting there in 3rd.

There's nothing lucky about getting 54 good laps out of a set of tyres imo

plenty of laps to spare
8 is hardly plenty

Vettels tyres pretty much had fallen apart. Given Alonso's penchant for overtaking, it was fairly inevitable he'd have a go, and at Monaco, probably touch in some way. No point Button getting swept up in such an event, when he had the car to get past both if there was a mistake

on a more important note - i'd like to point out that Eddie Jordan's shirts are awesome!

But for changing the tyres in the red flag, 5 would probably have done it...

it's all about the bad taste trouser competition between EJ and DC, I think EJ's purple ensemble has taken the points today

good lord I had no idea that STW had so many people that could see into the future! Or did Red Bull or Pirelli tell you that?

No ability to see into the future, but enough knowledge of the sport to know that Vettel's tyres were in bits, and on a circuit as tight as Monaco, it was only a matter of time. Whether 8 or 5 laps was enough time, who knows? But without the tyre change, that may have been a very different outcome. There was absolutely nothing to be gained by Button by being up Alonso's gearbox if an overtake attempt went even slightly wrong, but plenty to be gained if he had a big enough gap to avoid the wreckage.

Point is that both Button and Alons had given up track position in order to have fresher tyres, then this advantage was stripped by being allowed to change tyres under the red.

what if Vettels tyres didn't fall apart?

If they didn't, they didn't. All F1 strategy is a bit of a gamble - Vettel's tyres going somewhere before the finish was as close to a sure bet as you get on these things. By sitting back a bit Button was also preserving his tyres better.

Thank you for that useful insight, alpin. Can I take it you didn't watch because you think F1 is boring?

Whatever the result, still the most exciting Monaco for years, bring on Canada and two DRS zones!

Was motoGP on today? He was probably watching that becasue, you know, it's much better than F1.

Agree that it wasn't really a champion's drive from Vettel- not that he did anything wrong necessarily, but it was just the way the cards fell that put it all into place for him and pulled the rug on Alonso and Button at the end. Still, you make your own luck etc etc and he was there to capiitalise on it.

But the restart was a waste of time, especially after allowing them to change tyres- that really did make it pointless.

F1's not all about the top 3! Webber made a place, Hamilton fought for a place. Everyone's still racing for points.

Just watched Lewis' interview. Cannot believe he pulled the racism card, even though there was a hint of sarcasm. I'm a big fan, but he was a knob twice today, Massa did not intentionally turn in on him. I find myself supporting him less and less, seems to be just throwing grand statements around a lot.

Yeah, but if you've effectively reshuffled the pack by letting them change tyres it's not really the same race, and it didn't have time to develop into another race.

IMO anyway. But even Webber thought it was pointless, and he said that despite making up a place.

I think the weekend needed a racing finish! Total anticlimax if they'd just stopped it under the red flag, so racing cars blasting across the finish line was better than just pulling into the pits, if the overall race outcome is going to be the same. Personally, I'd rather watch a race.

The good thing about Hamilton's new facial hair scheme is that it allows me to say that I hate him without people calling me a racist.

Unimpressed with Hamilton's commments. Don't see that he's been treated unfairly this weeekend.

I agree, but he seems to taking over from Webber as the unluckiest driver in F1, but then again he does try far too hard at times.

Ecclestone is so desperate to televise some actual racing that he's now changing the rules!?

I thought 2/3 race distance was declared a result?

As for Hamilton wtf is that attempt at face fuzz?

He can drive in F1 and have that gf, he will never be able to make himself cool though

to be fair to hamilton - massa did pull across very early in the hairpin. Doesn't justify his ali g comments though

Hammy's comments were tongue in cheek, but it has been 5 of the last 6 races he's been dragged before the headmaster.

Massa was a big girl; Hamilton banged into him at the hairpin, and then he went off in suprise that Lewis was careering down the inside. He didn't see it coming, and the shock made him crash. It's about time he gave up.

Dear oh dear oh dear. 🙄

Hammo has acted like a spoilt brat for most of this season; constantly blaming others for his mistakes and failures. He was an absolute liability today, and tbh should perhaps serve a 2 or 3 race ban for his driving today, which was just downright dangerous at times. Caused three accidents, and put others in greater danger unnecessarily. You can't just deliberately crash into people just cos you can't get past. It's against the rules of the sport.

Massa's car was probbly damaged by Hammo ploughing into the side of it. Which could well have caused him to crash 2 corners later in the tunnel. Where was Massa sposed to go? He had the racing line, and wooduv ploughed into the back of Webber had he not turned in.

Hammo is indefensible. He was bang out of order today. Whinging little tosser. He's a disgrace to the sport.

What a great Monaco race! However i'm not impressed with Hamiltons post race interview at all.

2 out of 10 for interview technique, very poor for a professional sportsman paid so much.

yep hamilton has always looked a knob when he has people around him like Jenson B, Mark W, .

Even vettel has better manners although he is a bit M Shuey.

the race card he pulled made me cringe, last season he whined, this season he has stepped the misery up a notch imo, but the black thing, thats going to cost him, he will lose big time after that cheap shot, he needs to mtfu.

i recon jenson will go to ferrari soon anyway so he will be rid of him and not have to listen to that 5hit no more,

he should take a leaf out of the others books, they are always gratuitous and take it on the chin like men.

Right, 'cos 2 or 3 low speed bumps is much more dangerous than Schumey forcing Barichello off the track at full throttle, Petrov keeping his foot in after leaving the track and going airborne, etc etc 🙄

Schuey getting off too lightly for that incident doesn't excuse LH for his driving today. A multi race ban would go against all precedent though.

But elf, Massa going off would appear to be completely unrelated to the incident at the hairpin - he went off because LH got inside him in the tunnel, so forcing him onto the dirty track.
