Great goal, but the French have definitely given the referee a bung🤑🤑
that's good, for all his creative ability Griezman has broken up play 4 or 5 times now with little fouls, hopefully that'll stop him doing that as much.
Hmm. Shame it took us 20 mins to get going but at least we were playing by the end of the half.
i'm not pessimistic yet. France are a good side and look dangerous but we knew that. We've not clicked properly yet (and we seem to only do that in a moment of genius a lot of the time, rather than total dominance) and yet we've had two or three decent chances - two Lloris saves and a floated ball at back stick that Shearer would have put in the net along with all three French defenders.
I reckon we're also due a setpiece goal or two as well.
The foul on Saka before the French goal looked blatant to me. The penalty appeal var probably got right (although I would like to see it a few times more).
Think there's a couple more goals in this, not sure they're for England though.
Calling this. Two nil to France after an Mbappé counter attack.
I am not a fan of these floated in corners by Foden, I would like to see some whipped in.

That aged well!
Foden isn’t in it. Let’s have Maddison.
Jaysus, Saka’s being murdered out there. I dunno, England are managing MmmmBop very well. And France don’t appear to have much more once he’s nullified.
Foden is growing into the game. I'd like to take rashford on for saka
C'mon England ...
Time for some fresh legs now.
Why is the French begging the referee? No attempt at playing the ball ...
arrggghhh ... missed
Oh dear
ITV curse still going strong…
bit of class from both keepers there - Lloris consoling Kane, but just before Pickford went and shadowed the cameraman trying to get a camera under Kane's nose and gently ushered him away.
and no-one ran off down the tunnel like a ****
England lacks the determination and fire in the belly.
Kane will be in pieces. Oh well, that's knockout football. They played well. France did well with their chances... And had 12 men on the pitch.
Terrible ref.
There is still more to come from this team, there is a core of young quality players. Saka, Bellingham, Foden, Rice will be coming into their prime over the next 4 years. Southgate looks like he is comiing out of his defensive shell a bit as well, let these players play like they do for their clubs and we are in a strong position to win a trophy IMO.
We could really do with a better central defender (or 2) to come through, that would make it less of a risk to have TAA at right back.
We keep getting incrementally better, but fall a little short against the best.
I want to see Croatia and Morocco in the final.
Good performance from England. Better team but France took their chances and England didn't. Ref was shocking. Not quite as bad as yesterday but some poor decision making.
At least as a neutral (now) there are a couple of underdogs to cheer for in the semis
No urgency in the team tonight.
I don't think we fell short really, either side could have won that and the other side would have had no complaints. Not our night, you'd put your house on Kane scoring that, we can complain that decisions didn't go our way for the first goal, for another penalty in the first half...... as they just said on TV if we'd been outplayed or not turned up then it's a different matter.
France played England at their own game there. Didn’t do too much but we’re ruthless with the two chances they got. Southgate needs to go. The likes of Bellingham, Saka, Grealish and Foden deserve a more adventurous manager.
There was nothing in the game, we're just not clinical enough against the top teams.
Southgate needs to go.
I think you have a short memory. England were a shambles when he took over, his tournament record is excellent and we've just lost narrowly to the world champions.
Griezman was probably the difference.
Southgate needs to go.
Agreed. Need to go back to their winning ways before he took over 🙄
They did well. Good french goals though, tres jollie.
Poor old harry kane though, he'll kick that ball a thousand times tonight
I agree with jonv, it was a close game and we didn't embarrass ourselves. On another night we might have won but it wasn't meant to be. I think Southgate did well and would be happy for him to lead England into the next euro's
I think Southgate's approach to 'adventure' tonight was based more on the limitations of our back four to counters from Griezmann, Mbappe, Dembele and Giroud.
I'm sure he would have loved to stick on Trippier to tear up behind Saka and deliver crosses, but that wasn't a realistic option with the talent they were up against.
Whether Southgate remains should be entirely a matter for him, and whether he thinks he can continue to add value. He's earned that.
Apparently my Scottish Asian upstairs neighbours are also French, going by the cheering whenever France scored 😆
Good game, and I don't think anyone played badly.
Southgate go? - why does this nonsense keep rolling out. Semi, Euro final, quarters... Who are you going to replace him with - Harry Redknapp? Put out 9 strikers, a bully beef defender and a goalkeeper?
France have a very good front pressing line
Exactly, who would
a) be better with this group of players
b) be actually available?
I thought England were excellent tonight. I think France will win it again next weekend yet tonight I thought they were the second best team..just
The real missed opportunity was the 2018 euro final. England are a far superior team to Italy and didn’t perform that night. If they’d played like they did. Tonight they’d be the reigning European champions
Southgate needs to go.
I will give him another chance for the next world cup, but if he cannot improve on the current standing he should go.
No one wants to wait for improvement, we want it yesterday and before we go to our grave.
Can any of you think England can win another World Cup since 1966? I am questioning that at the moment.
Who are you going to replace him with
Big Sam deserves another chance. Perfect record for England 😂
Semi-final, final, quarter final loss to reigning world champions. Can no-one remember the fun we used to have scraping out of the group, or not getting out of it at all? Brazil was only two WCs ago, that's what failure looks like. We drew with Costa Rica and lost the other two.
