I got a Honda Beat K car that weighs 650kg or something, it's now got 125bhp and is quite hard to keep on the road now. I did use it to win the Japanese 90s car series tho 🙂

Can you play this online or what?

Yeah, Got it the day of release (Tesco's release day deal was too good to pass up).
It's prob the most frustrating game ever made with it's horribly slow and tedious multi menu system, add to that playing it on 2 PS3s to level 16+ each before they finally released a patch to allow copying of the game save, am now at L19, passed all license challenges and completed upto expert (I think) but rarely play PS3.
I'm clueless about cars so can't even remember what my first cars were, must have 70+ of them now but TBH hate the whole choosing/ modding cars part of the game.

😉

I like the modding part. You can either race stock if you want to really test yourself, or just keep coming second and third until you have enough money to improve your car. It makes a good handicap system I think. And it gets less important later in the game and real driving skill becomes more important.

I've done quite a lot but reached a bit of a wall. Level 21 in the pro series events. There's a 2 race series I need to win to get to level 22 and then be able to buy proper race cars. You're up against proper race cars but can't have one yourself it seems. Can't be bothered repeating lots of races to earn money to try and do it either.

steveh - you now get Exp points for any race you do, even online races/seasonal events, just keep racing random events and you'll eventually get to L22.. or you could just ask to borrow a mates car 😉

had it since the day of release and am up to level 21 - got 2 licences on S to complete and I'm done
have just been farming credits with b-spec for a week or so though to rest my slight case of bankers wrist - got a couple of mil to spend now and about 50 unused car tickets.

To be honest I am underwhelmed and once I get bored I will probably go back to NFS:Shift - if I could manage to unlock the TopGear track it would revitalize the game - but I keep getting silver in the blasted VDubs, as its a big part of why I wanted GT5 having it locked like that is starting to p me off

to win the VW camper challenge, overtake inside every corner (except the 2nd tight coned lefthander, where you brake late on the outside to pass)and never touch the brake. HTH

K car is a very small sub 700kg or something Japanese car. There's a K car challenge in the beginner events. They are good fun to drive.

K car - tiny jap citycar - there is a list of models that you can use.

I think I might have another go at the TG track this eve - I can get silver quite reliably but gold eludes me.

GrandW - I've got gold on all TG challenges, you need to know just how much you can scrap with the other cars without being DQ'd, it's quite random at times (but the same in each situation, if you get me) you def need to drive aggressively. I found the Elise TG challenge far harder then the others, but much more fun !! 😀

added you molgrips

Haven't played since before christmas, but currently at lvl24 in A-Spec and finally got a Formula GT (the "I win" car for open races). It was getting a bit stale but I'll no doubt get back into it at some point.

I'm intrigued by GT5 - will this version allow you to crash your car into a wall & not get a scratch? I've always thought it odd the self proclaimed most realistic driving game would let you smack into a wall at 50 mph & drive off without a scratch.

Forza has instant crash damage - I screwed my VX220 so badly the other day that it was pulling to the left and I had to compensate for the remainder of the race.

From the Amateur series?

I try to get cars that double up as much as possible, so I wanted one that would do for the supercar race too. I went for the Stingray thinking that it looked the better handler. Did the cheap upgrades to get another 60bhp and proper handling, and cruised home.

I'm a bit underwhelmed and quite disappointed with the game.
It all seems quite muted and slow.
I'm only at level 13 or 14 but it's very laborious and, dare I say, a bit too easy.

I wonder if I'm playing it right - maybe I'm modding the cars too early.

Tell me it's worth sticking with for the upper levels.

It gets a lot harder the further up you go. I was finding it painfully easy at first but some of the higher races are very challenging...Gallardo Challenge springs to mind.

My main problem with some was overmodding (900bhp Dodge Viper springs to mind 😀 ) so I was winning races really easy.

GT3 was amazingly hard in the higher levels. When tyre wear kicks in you really have to know what you are doing, and the races were like an hour long.

I've been resisting buying a PS3 so far, but as I bought a PS2 just to get GT3 after loving GT and GT2 on the original playstation its getting kind of inevitable. Damn it!

It'll be updating to v1.05 which adds damage, some new cars and an online dealership for rare cards.

Just made it to L19, trying to do the Nurburgring in the wet with all aids turned off is a bit challenging

I've done the Nurburgring for real in a minibus! In the dry! With everything coming passed and bikes underneath ya on the inside.

Likewise... Had an original Playstation, and went mad over GT and GT2... Bought a PS2 for the main purpose of being able to play GT3, then got GT4 when it came out (and spent many many many hours getting hundreds of cars on it!). Had resisted a PS3 for a few years now, but the release of GT5, plus a cheque for a few quid my way at Christmas, and I'm ashamed to say I went for a spot of Pre-January sales shopping to Gamestation and bought a PS3 with GT5 the other day!

Anyway, hardly had any time to play it so far, only on level 2, done a few 2 player races on Arcade mode though with my housemate. All I can say so far is that I'm not really that fussed how good a game it is or not, it has my favourite ever car in it now (Ferrari F40), so all I can think about is saving up enough money to buy it and drive it!

Boys with toys eh... 😉

Oh, and for anybody wanting a race (you will beat me, at least for a while anyway) my PS3 username is... Maverickboy1980

got my b-spec driver up to level 20 now - I should probably drive a car for myself for a bit but farming cash while watching tv with the PS3 in PIP in the top corner works well too.
It actually gets interesting after about level 19 with pitstops and tyre choices to consider and races where your backseat driving can actually make a difference.
4.5mil in the bank and 50odd unspent car tokens should see me through a bit of a spending binge when I A-Spec next.

My B-spec driver is level 6 and I'm up to level 15 but keep getting sidetracked by the baby or by housework 🙁 At the moment though its building up enough casharoony for cars to do specific races. So my Mazda 787 Stealth is doing laps of Daytona over and over.

Rather suprised at the "Polyphony Digital Cup - Race against the fastest cars" which I won in a Golf R32 fending off a Skyline and an RX7 😕

I turned of ALL the driver aids last night and I wish I'd done it earlier. I bought a stock MX5 for the Mazda race and had to sit in the queue and pass cars one at a time, just like a real race 🙂 My 'vette is almost undriveable without ABS mind.

Anyone know how you get a pickup truck for the pickup race?

I think if you win the modern muscle car event you get a pickup as a prize, Hemi Quadcab possibly.

Or just keep your eyes peeled in the used car section. I used a Ford F150 Lightning for it. Quite a challenge with it stock as there are some quick trucks on there

When I drove it out of the box, ABS was only one level 1 out of 10 and you could still spin the car.

Like I say I wish I'd turned it off to begin with. I might go back and start again.
