.....arse.
Not in so many words (I'm very polite) but that's what I boiled down to.
The quarry is finished, all the stocks gone, and we're importing stuff to sell on and keep the concrete plant going. There's only me and an agancy machine driver left out of a staff of 5 and it's now losing money because deliveries have stopped (No point loading lorries twice, everthing is sent from another quarry) and other trade is dying, especially since the EA stopped us stocking limestone.
So to save money they want me to cover the weighbridge (Which is my job) and drive the machine as well. Which would invove running around like a blue arsed fly all day, and my the return of my dodgy knee (Driving causes it, has done for years)
Not on your nelly, sunshine. Poke it.
I'm very happy with my decision, and my deciseiveness.
deciseiveness
is this a salad dressing?
Well done. Hope something else comes up quick for ya.
Oh, I'm still here. They won't get rid of me (Yet) that easily. I'll just be buggered if I'm doing 2 jobs for the price of one.
๐ฏ
Have you got a job to go to?
will this be the end of sitting on your arse all day trying to correct the internet then?
EDIT: guess not
Have you got a job to go to?
I've been looking for a while, but I'm choosy. Don't want another job in the construction industry, I've had enough of it.
They can't get rid of me on the basis of this.
Surely you can just carry on, but not rush around - I mean, whats the worst that could happen?
Don't think you'll get a job as a proof reader...
To be fair, my boss has already said it's not practical for one person to do the job. Both of us want them to shut the quarry down (Well, it is all dug out) and I've been asking for redundancy since I was given an 'at risk' letter 2 years ago!
Why don't you turn it into a 4x4/Motocross/BMX track, right, and charge people money for to come and play with themselves?
No?
Surely you can just carry on, but not rush around - I mean, whats the worst that could happen?
I could get really pissed off that I was being taken advantage of. And then my knee problems would return.
And 'not rush around'? Yeah. Right.
I've refused, point blank. End of argument. I'll bet I'm still here at Christmas.... ๐
PP - who did you work for?
A brave move PP and hope it works out well for you, if you really not happy in the job and can't see an alternative that you'd happy with then go for it. Best of luck with the future.
if you really not happy in the job
Oh I hate it. It's crap. Bores me to tears. But it pays OK (Long hours though) and it's convenient and they're a good company to work for, all things considered. I've been here 9-10 years.
PP - who did you work for?
But I've not jacked!
I've just refused to do 2 jobs at once!
sorry who do you work for? is it a company with the initials A and I?
Sorry, just re-read my OP. It does seem like I've walked out, doesn't it?
I'm still here.
Got no intention of leaving, I'm really pushing for redundancy. ๐
is it a company with the initials A and I?
Nope. H. ๐
Ah I see. Then well done for refusing to work beyond what 'reasonably fair' as long as it wasn't what is normally expected of you of course.
is that the H that bought out the A & I?
Cheers Drac. I must admit I felt like a right to$$ser for doing it, but that didn't last long..... ๐
is that the H that bought out the A & I?
Err I think so yes. I've lost track of who bought out who to be fair! We were bought out by a German company, another H, a couple of years ago!
Oh sod it!
Hanson Aggregates.
aahh the other H!
I was thinking Holcim who now own Aggregate Industries.
You'll be fine then.
Why don't you simply buy the hole off them.....then turn it into landfill! Or will the local authority already have thought of that?
Why don't you simply buy the hole off them.....then turn it into landfill! Or will the local authority already have thought of that?
It don't work like that!
D'ya think that if they could get permission to backfill it, that they wouldn't have done it already...? 8)
PP - hang in there for the redundancy, it'll be worth it.
Surely they can't have you 'at risk' for 2 years! Can you force a voluntary redundancy?...
...and charge people money for to come and play with themselves?
I if wanted to come out I certainly wouldn't pay for it. Come to that, I wouldn't pay to play with myself either.
Russian ladies in Dubai, however, are a very different prospect that involves a different sort of quarry and no limestone whatsoever.
I'd pay for that. ๐
Zed - Long story short -
I took a temporary job in IT, which came to an end. I was still techically on my Weighbridge Clerk contract, but everyone on the IT project was given at risk letters. I got my old job back in the quarry, but I did say at the time "Please make ne redundant" which caused some scratching of heads!
Now, the quicker they shut the quarry, the better my chances are of redundancy, although they'll try to keep me on as something else, probably at another quarry or as shovel driver here for the concrete plant. Neither of which I'm the slightest bit intereseted in doing....
So are you still at risk? I wouldn't have thought they could do that? Where's TJ? He's pretty good with things like this...
I don't need TJ or a Union. Quite capable of looking after myself. ๐
haha! I'm sure you are. Hope it all works out in your favour.
Good luck Peter Poddy!
Seems to me since the recession the powers that be want us to work longer hours and get paid less. Why risk your health and end up ****ed for no good reason.
Well done mate!
Didn't you get a job in a bike shop?
Nice one, I never had the guts to do that sort of thing in my last job and it did me no good not being brave enough to say it (probably wouldn't have worked anyway).
PP - There have been two times I have stood up to the bosses at work on matter of principle and risked my job because of it. Both times worked in my favour. Both times were extremely worrying at the time.
1st time I got the pay rise and job I deserved.
2nd time I walked out of the Switzerland contract with no job to go to. Really scary having been made redundant and being work-less for 4 months previously. Worth it for recapturing my relationship with wifie and was lucky enough to get a job 4 hours later.
Do the right thing even if it isn't the easiest thing
