A friend had an inquisitive one follow him for 15mins off the Moray coast whilst kayaking as he paddled like **** back into the bay. Broaching the water numerous times within yards of him. He's a long in the tooth South African who has seen a thing or two but it's fair to say he crapped himself - metaphorically and physically.

It is indeed. But much like when a sea snake got entangled in my BCD whilst diving and knowing that their mouth size meant I was mostly safe, persuading yourself you are safe when being tracked by an Orca is significantly easier to do as a desk exercise than in reality 😀
