Recently had Virgin Media installed (highly recommended if your not too worried about HD channels) and now have a spare Sky+ dish outside.
My PC upstairs has a built in DVB receiver and a DVB input.
Before I start drilling holes through the external walls to redirect the old Sky cable. Would I be able to use the dish and go straight in to the PC and use freeview without using the Sky box?
I know I can still use the Sky box as a receiver buy there is no scart input on the PC, so I can’t do it that way.
Freeview? no, that's a terrestrial service
You'll need a Freesat decoder
What inputs has your PC got for A/V?
Mmm. not sure. Think it has a DVB input and a coax input. (I'm at work at the moment). Maybe an HDMI. Does Sky + have a coax output? maybe I could use it as a freesat decoder?
The DVB input is probably DVB-T [T as in Terrestrial]
If you have a RF input on the coax plug - maybe
That's helpful actually, thanks. I'll check tonight.
If the coax input is a normal sized one [Belling Lee] or has an adapter to convert it, it will probably work
Just connect the receiver before you do all the cabling through the wall - if it works, you'll be able to get all the menus etc.
Thanks, It is a standard coax. I can move the computer downstairs and rig up the sky box again to test it all out before I let rip with the 14" drill bit.
Just take the Sky box upstairs, it'll be easier - you don't need it connected to anything to test it
Ahh, OK. Cheers
