I have a MacBook Pro I’m looking to get rid of. There are a fair few photos and quite a bit of music on there. I’m assuming I can just copy (or move) these to an external HDD for safe keeping? Is there something better than this as an option? It has to be cheap though.

Once done, what’s the best method of resetting the Mac to factory settings, or near as damn it, before getting shut? All help and suggestions appreciated.

Once your files are backed up, shut down your MacBook Pro. Plug it into the AC adapter, and then boot it back up. Finally, press and hold “Command-R” (the “Command” and “R” keys at the same time) to start the restore process. Hold these keys until the Apple logo appears on the screen, and then release them

iCloud account sync the phtos across. Music might be able to be stored on the files folder.
