I found a couple of these, unused, from when I was with BT.
Do they just work with cables or do they boost the wi-fi range? I'd like to improve the signal in the shed/garden, would these work?
I'm totally in the dark about stuff like this so any pointers would be great.
They look like this:

Depends how the electrics in your house are wired.
They use the power cables to transmit a network signal - so if you're on the same circuit in the house, they work. If you're not (say you have two separate consumer units for different parts of the house) then they sometimes don't.
They work with cables (or, at least, the ones in the pic do). Plug from device (eg desktop PC), into adaptor, plug that into wall, then another plug near the router, and cable from plug to router.
