Thinking of getting a new (S/h) watch, I quite like Omegas but not sure which one to get. Second hand budget of about £500.

My old speedmaster reduced, sold when i was out of work in the summer, to pay the rent and buy the stillage's for BBB.
Looking to replace it with something soon, now i'm back in work just can't decide what.
For £500 you may be lucky to get a seamaster mid size second hand, add a couple of hundred more and you start to get in to the speedy reduced used price bracket.
also take a look at the sales section on somewhere like tz-uk, or places such as blowers or watches.co.uk
anyone have one of those special ops jack bauer watches - catching my eye at the mo but no idea of the quality
Check out Oris watches, (especially the divers) they have great designs are swiss made and in comparison to similar stuff, good value.
Cheap mans rolex, if your looking to buy a omega go for an older / vintage model, more worthy of the brand and nicer made. All the modern ones are bought by Audi / penis rover drivers 😉

I'm not in to showing off, but I do appreciate watches, I'm seriously considering spending a lot on the next one...
Hold on, was that a contradiction?...
I have a Seamaster but don't drive an Audi or a 'penis rover', I have a sensible Volkswagen.
I would do you a pic, but it just looks like Seamaster. I've been wearing my 50 quid G-Shock more to be honest.
My mate works in a Bremont dealer and I'm smitten by the ALT1-C. I'd love one of those, but it's going to take some saving up for!
For £500 you may get a modern secondhand quartz seamaster. But you'd be lucky.
Are you more interested in the Seamasters or Speedmasters?
Or would you prefer a dress watch? You could get a good mid-60's Seamaster for £500.
Very jealous of Woffle's flightmaster.
I have a old seamaster, very nice looking watch, shame it's a day & date rather than just date, that & it's idea of timekeeping is not what you would call 'good' 🙁
Maybe able to get a used Sinn 556 for that price.
Sorry no pic, I've got an 8 year old seamaster, americas cup limited eddition in steel and white gold, lovely watch wore it every day till about 6 months ago then got a g-shock solar, radio signal one because I got fed up with the poor time keeping on the omega, and it realy could do with a service, any one know how much an omega service is? And even though the omega is a auto wind do they still need a manual wind every now and then? Very little info in the omega book just cracked on about the swiss certification, not use if it runs slow by a couple of minutes a week!
Cheers, PJ.

I think the standard is about 10 seconds a day. So a couple of minutes a week sounds a bit high. Perhaps a service would help.
If you don't want to send it back to Omega you could try a UK watchmaker. I just sent one of mine to Chealwatch for a service. You can email them for a quote. They quoted me £40.

Think you would be very lucky to get one of these for £500. I bought mine 5 years ago and cost me £750 reduced from £900. Just make sure when you are buying second hand that it is real. If you are going for a Quartz see how old the battery is, cause a new one will rob you close to another £60
Cheers Mattjb, I really must get my finger out and get a service done, paranoid about posting though, a lad at work has had 6 items lost by royal mail in the last year, so it might be back to the jewellers where I got it, hopefully they'll be insured for loss!

I sent it Royal Mail Special Delivery. £6 delivered including £1000 insurance. It arrived the next morning.
How much did that go for cynical-al?
I've got the one that was given to me by my dad, certified for space flight you know, no idea what it's worth but as it was my dad's won't ever be for sale. He had bloody big wrists!
Here is my 1969 Seamaster Electronic. Hand me down from my uncle. Very heavy(but in a nice way) and chunky due to conical shape. Use it every day. When I have some spare money I will have it serviced, polished and new glass fitted by Omega in Switzerland. Will be giving it to my son one day. Not the prettiest Omega but a proper watch, I love it.

£700
Try posting on a watch forum, you will get more help sourcing an actual watch, I have a Speedmaster, a PO and a couple of JLC's and i'd consider looking elsewhere with your budget; Sinn, Stowa, Nomos etc...
Don't touch Rolex.
MTT - where?
Anyone know what the black Omega was that Daniel Craig wore in Casino Royale ? Now that was a nice watch.
trailmonkey - Planet Ocean on rubber, the actual watch is a special edition but they aren't hard to find.
cynic-al - You need to be registered member of a forum which no longer accepts new members. If you are looking for something drop me a PM and i will have a look.

Some proper watch geeks around, makes me LOL.

you can pick the PO up second hand for about £1100
Save and save and save;

Things of beauty. I wonder if I'll ever own one?
Probably not.
MTT - swap you a 1 year old Seamaster GMT for the second Seamaaster - just been quoted £650 for mine with box and papers
I have a moon watch (Speedmaster Professional) but I can't post any pics of it at the moment.
My brother has a Seamaster and my dad the Planet Ocean.
On reflection, I wish I had bought the PO because the plastic crystal on the Speedmaster is a liability.
I'll give it to me son in 15years or so and get something else 🙂
My Dad has a gold Omega that I've always had my eye on. I'm sure he said that it has a lifetime warrenty so that whenever the battery needs replacing he gets it done free of charge at Fattorinni (jewelers) in Bradford where he bought it in the 1970s

meesterbond - That's the place, is registration open again? It must be by now...
It rather depends how beligerent Eddie's feeling I think! Bless him.. I think it's open at the moment, judging by the influx of random rubbish on there this week
I don't think you can even view Sales Corner any more unless you have the requesit 50 posts!
MTT, what not touch Rolex?
Try a few on in a shop.
Watches split into dress and chunky.
I prefer the former.
Maybe a speedy reduced on leather strap for sir, should be got for close to £500 - maybe a little more.
My Seamaster Aqua Terra, bought last month for my 30th (and for doing my first marathon). Love it.
