Well I had a test drive of a mountune fiesta st and tbh the m135i isn't half as fun. I was tempted to wait for the m235i, the dealer has one for a test drive in march so going to hang on until then. But I suspect the fiesta will still be more fun and as second car to compliment my t5 it seems perfect

You would expect the smaller car to be more fun though, and the larger one to be more refined and comfortable over longer distances. Not really comparing apples with apples

Was just reading about the new Golf R today. 300bhp 😯 and 40mpg. Less CO2 and cheaper tax than my 2.0 diesel Passat!

Anyone every owned a 350Z?

Not owned, but had a reasonably lengthy drive in one (Montrose to Edinburgh) which was distinctly underwhelming. Whilst looking nice on the outside the interior felt a bit vanilla, like it was lifted straight out of whatever executive-spec repmobile Nissan were producing at the time. It also didn't feel very fast at all, despite it obviously being so. Still, not for me in the end. I much prefer a more distinct sense of building up speed than somehow arriving at it unruffled. That tends to come from less comfortable cars though, so you takes your pick...

If it's a friend's 350Z, I'd definitely ask to borrow it for an extended weekend before buying.

I was enjoying this thread until people started missing the point of it and started posting their new BWM M5s and 1 series!

Because it only counts if the car is a 10 year old weekend fun car....? 😕

Some of us can't afford the luxury of a 'cheap' car like that. It has to double up as an everyday commuting car too.

Does a 20yr old land rover qualify as a fun car but a 135m doesn't???

What nonsense!!! Someone is indeed 'missing the point'...

I saw it as a car that's your pride and joy, that is a bit different to the norm and doesn't get used every day.

A car doesn't have to be fast to be fun, people get enjoyment from tinkering with old cars and taking them to shows etc.

As for the comment about not being able to afford a second car for weekends, if you don't spend £30k on a BMW 1 series, it's quite feasible to buy something more mundane to commute in and be able to afford a more interesting older car for weekends. It's something's my dads done for as long as I can remember and I've been lucky enough to do for the last 10 years or so.

Good for you, if I could afford it I'd go down the M5 route, leave tinkering with shite to others. I can't afford either however, so I'm stuck with my Touran which is fine by me. That's as close as buying a dedicated 'fun car' as I'm likely to get.

Agreed. The m135's can scuttle off back to pistonheads.

Here's my old 88 944 turbo.

Of course its true I could have had a second hand 911 and a 5k Euro box for the price of my 1 series, and I did seriously consider this option for a long time, but then up popped the 135i and I could own a car that will hit 60 in the same time as, and has the same power as a 996 911 Carrera. Of course trade off is that its a more modern car and you don't feel as connected to the road as in those older cars, primarily because of the electric steering rack but what you get in return is a comfortable, econmical fast and fairly reasonably priced car. IMHO of course

I certainly did buy it for fun, too my commute is an almost traffic free fun drive, for the first 30 miles, and where would the enjoyment be in slogging down the A682 every day in a diesel golf when its a great driving road and almost traffic free even at rush hour :-D?

I've not driven either, so a genuine question....is driving the 135i even remotely comparable to the 911?

I have a 130i as my only car. Done over 8,000 miles in 5 months. Hilariously good fun when poked, refined on the motorway and I can fit my bike in the back easily. Only downside is the 32mpg average. Thinking of selling though as the ratio of motorway to fun driving is, unfortunately, massively skewed towards the motorway driving.

No pictures as I can't access them here from work. But I'm in mid refresh of a 1991 BMW 850i which will be the Wifes fun (and only) car

No, one is a sports car and one is a turbocharged family hatchback. The similarities end at; is RWD and has >300hp

I'll leave it there as I risk becoming a bit like Surfmatt if I continue to dogmatically state how good a car it is though...

The most fun car I have owned so far:

[img] [/img]

Impreza WRX. Scoobysport exhaust and remap for about 280 bhp. Prodrive springs. OZ Superleggera wheels, gold of course. STI mudflaps for the rally look.
Used to love caning it around the track.

Just to add to the annoyance of people who dont think the m135i can be classed as a fun car. Mine arrives in 3 weeks, im trading in my m3 for it,but im keeping my proper fun car , a caterham 7.

So are you saying it is or isn't a "fun" car? You're post seems to argue both sides

Here's mine, gone but not forgotten, it was mapped to 310bph and was so much fun.

It was my opt out company car for two years but just ended up costing to much, all the money now goes into bikes 😀

Can I go with , it is and it isnt?

I guess the m135i wasnt strictly bought for only fun times, it'll see mainly trudging to work in traffic, but hoping it can be fun when the opportunity presents. I guess it'll be part fun part boring hatchback.

Caterham 7 was bought purely for fun, and when the conditions are right its great fun, but when the conditions are wrong its a hateful place to be.

My fun car currently looks like this:
[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

Wheels, engine, gearbox, driveshafts are all I have for it right now.
And just when I didn't need it the daily driver (Celica GT4) blew a ringland, so now I'm back to the 306 diesel estate.
