I have a pretty high pain threshold. I fall asleep getting tattooed, I've been punched and kicked a lot and it's never hurt.

However today on the bike, about 30 seconds into a steep trail a bee or wasp flew into my head and stung me.

I could cry. 😆 Absolutely horrific pain. Hours later and it still feels like someone is drilling into my head!

Is this normal or am I reacting badly? No swelling or anything, just ridiculous pain.

Are you sure it was a bee or a wasp? Might have been one of those things that buries into you to lay it's eggs and now it's inside your brain.

I had a bee sting me and get stuck in my lip on a fast rocky descent and there was nothing I could do to pull it out till I got to the bottom.Just felt tingly for about half an hour.
So
You either need more meat in your diet 😉
You are soft
You have a tumour IANAD
Or it was a wasp-maybe an enduro wasp?
Going back to childhood ,wasps stings really did hurt way more than bee stings.
Anaphalaxis strikes pretty quickly so you should be ok on that front.

Side of the temple

I've been stung here and had no pain at all. Not in a "ha I laugh at your feeble sting" sort of a way, literally no pain.

The swelling however was enough to close my eye for 24hrs.

ended up in hospital last year after a wasp sting at back of head, body covered in hives and breathing was very difficult.

You sure it was a wasp and not a hornet?

or maybe a bot fly?

Or more sensibly a horse fly?

Definatley Bot fly , you are now incubating larvae. Apparently you can hear them eat their way out when they are ready. 🙂

Side of the temple

Between the flying buttresses? Or on the apse?

At least it wasn't the Holy of Holies

I was doing about 35mph downhill on the road bike last summer when a wasp hit me on the neck and bounced down inside my jersey, got annoyed that he couldn't get out and started stinging. Got me four or five times while I smacked myself in the chest to try to squash it.

It hurt, but in a tingly, stingy way, not an agonising way. It was just itchy after a few hours.

I trod on a bumblebee once, while walking barefoot on the lawn. It stung me on the arch of my foot. Initially there was a mild sting which quickly abated, but then it started aching. Like the worst tooth-ache you've ever had, but in my whole foot. It felt like my bones were dying. I contemplated amputation at one point, it lasted for hours.

Oh, and yours is definitely a botfly 😀

Riding down a fast tarmac road around Chamonix a ways back, I had on a long-sleeved Rocket Raceparts riding top with the the sleeves pushed up, and a wasp got caught under the material against my arm, and expressed its displeasure by stinging me repeatedly in the same place! At around thirty mph it was bloody distracting, and it took a fair bit of nerve to take my other hand off the bar to flick the sleeve back and let it go, but the pain was pretty intense, and it developed into a deep, persistent ache that lasted for several weeks.
Not wanting that again.

Happened to me too, stung right on the temple, bashing the side of my bike helmet with my fist, lol!

I wear these nowadays...

Other vendors are available.

Anyway, i thought that rubbing vinegar/ alcohol on it would ease the pain.
Or does that only apply to jellyfish stings?

Speaking of which, summer of '76. down the beach with a cheap fishing net, scooping up all manner of sea life, including a jellyfish.
Part of its stinger must have remained in the net after I released the creature, because when I lifted the net up to shake the seawater out, said stinger wound up in my eye.
Being a kid, the trip to A&E seemed to take a lifetime.

You've probably forgotten all about that wasp sting...

Worked in a jam factory a long time ago in my yoof.
Stung many times by bees and wasps in various places, anywhere that skin is thin was always horrible.
Arms and hands, bareable, rarely even went to get the spray stuff to ease it, but head and neck were hideous, ears? Instant Van Gough was the only realistic option.
