Maybe I'm being a bit alarmist, but i'm getting to that age now when my older gen , quite a lot seem to be getting shingles and it sounds pretty fricking miserable...
I don't qualify for a free vaccine, as I'm a bit too young but I see you can buy a 2 dose course from (superdrug for example) for about £460..
I'm kinda tempted... am I just being daft?
My wife had shingles in her late 50s. Not pleasant but not £450 unpleasant. Obviously experiences will vary.
I see I will be eligible for thr vaccine on the NHS after next Sept. I will be taking it when offered.

I had the Vaccine (1st dose) last week. Knocked me for 6 24 hours later. Felt pretty gubbed for the rest of the week. Didn't know about the dementia link.
Bob Mortimer had shingles and was badly affected. His legs were particularly affected.
I’m lucky enough to have qualified under the confusing (to me) guidelines. I had some side effects from the first injection but after a couple of days I was back to normal.
Depends on your financial circumstances @mattyfez If you’re not far off qualifying for free then take the risk, if you’re flush then I would pay for it and cut the worry.
I had my first shingles vaccination about a month ago, it wasn’t much different to my Covid or flu vaccinations, maybe a bit more achy and sensitive where I had it, but that’s all. I don’t expect the follow-up in five months or so to be any different.
I had chickenpox years ago, in my twenties, about a week after going back to work after the Christmas/New Year break, and promptly had another couple of weeks off!

I have had shingles twice now and it is miserable. There is nothing quite like nerve pain and I didn't have a particularly bad case of it. I never got the rash, it was just thoracic nerve pain, extreme sensitivity to even light touch and feeling a bit crook

Depends where you get it it, I think it follows the path of a nerve and my mum had it across the face which was not great. It can cause blindness/deafness etc if you are really unlucky.

I had it in L3, so it wrapped around my leg. I got off very lightly.
its absolutely screwed my dads eyesight and caused some major problems. definatley tempted

Had the vaccine yesterday afternoon. (Because I'm 65+) I don't know what shingles are like, but the vaccine feels as if I've been hit by a bus!! Arm feels beyond bruised, cold, dizzy, thick head. Feels like real man flu!!............Just off out for a very gentle ride now to try and shake it off, family event this afternoon. Feel like going back to bed, but am convincing myself that I'm not ill, there's nothing wrong with me, it's just a reaction. ..............So yes, go for the jab, Im sure it'll be of benefit!!! 😉 😉 😉 😉
