Half a dozen folk split across 4 offices around the country. Mainly word, excel and powerpoint, some small videos possibly - 50gb capacity is more than enough.

I know there are / has been security issues with DropBox in the past, but I'm not too concerned about that TBH.

Any recommendations?

The big difference between the two is the amount of free space. Google is 5gb where as, after jumping through a few hoops, you can get 16gb with Dropbox.

I have a 100 Gb Dropbox for something like $100 / year. Works brilliantly, converted all my colleagues to it.

Dropbox is fine, but bear in mind that if one of your team deletes a file, it'll rapidly be deleted from all of the machines. This may or may not be a problem.

If it is a problem, Github might be a better bet.

Edit: seems the Dropbox Team service has deletion undo and versioning.

With Dropbox you can undo any file deletion and go back to any previous version for up to 30 days. You can also be selective about what you share with people, so just share copies or the master version - up to you. You can also create download only links.

Dropbox also handles version clashes very nicely eg two people mod the same file at the same time, you get conflicted copies marked with the source machine name so you can work out whose is whose etc.

Checkout box.com

It is designed for exactly what you require and has basic facilities for workflow (reviewing etc.).

You can download plugins for various apps that allow you to save/open files from within the application.

Really good support for mobile devices as well.

With the top paid for version you can customise the interface so you could have your company logo displayed - looks more professional when sharing stuff with customers.

We were using dropbox teams for a short period, found that we were getting a lot of conflicted copies even when no-one had edited them... As an aside it seems to screw around with file permissions if you combine dropbox with file sharing on an OSX server.

Wuala.com? Swiss company (they make those Lacie external drives), Swiss servers (I think), very secure, shows up as a drive on your file system, plays beautifully with Android, can be accessed remotely, will sync files or just act like another storage device/drive.

If you are after something a little more sophisticated than Dropbox I'd recommend Huddle. I have a contact there if you are interested drop me an email. stumpytrek@me.com

stumpytrek - nice one. I'd discounted Huddle because I though that the pricing was prohibitive, but the organisation in question qualifies for a donated account, which looks excellent.
