I know you poor sods in the northern hemisphere are enduring a grimmer than average winter but I am sitting down in 100% humidity and 22 degrees at 11.25 pm drinking Steinlager Pure and its just the ticket. I bloody love Beer me.
Please to be telling me whats getting you through these chilly times?
I quite like Carlsberg Export at the moment or Red Stripe.
Yorkshire Tea and a warm jumper.
Real beer gets me through winter nights. 😛
Ilkley Brewery Mary Jane or Leeds Pale
It's good. I could probably live without it though. Since leaving uni I've hardly drank it, or any alcohol actually.
I prefer Lyme Regis, personally, just along the coast but a bit more going on.
Hop Back Summer Lightning is the finest beer in existence. FACT
Summer Lightning's ok, but you can't beat a proper stout - man's beer.

I also had a lovely pint of Lee's Chocoholic last week:
Champion!
Thornbridge Jaipur. There is nothing finer.
Winter - Guinness.
Summer - Guinness Extra Cold.

Summer - Guinness Extra Cold.
Good to see someone who doesnt want to taste anything, as long as its cold! Why not just drink cold lemonade?
Friend brought this back from the states:

Steinlager Pure
Unadulterated gayness
beers for queers, laudanum is where its at nowadays.
>Good to see someone who doesnt want to taste anything, as long as its cold! Why not just drink cold lemonade?<
What on earth are you on about? Guinness is full of flavour and a very refreshing pint to boot.
He's just bitter because he drinks old man beer that tastes STRONGLY of old tramps' socks and feels the need to shout about it
(See what I did there 😉 )
Beer in clear bottles, oh dear oh dear oh dear, make sure you buy bottle from the back of the shelf or preferably from an unopened box.
Heather Bash - Guinness is pretty tasteless compared to a real stout. Have a look at some of my suggestions above and you won't regret it. 😉
Guinness Original in cans is the nearest thing to Guinness of old, the gassy smoothflow stuff you get in pubs is nasty stuff.
The Foreign Extra stout is pretty good though:
http://stonch.blogspot.com/2007/01/guinness-foreign-extra-nigerian-style.html
Plus the colder you make guiness the less it tastes of anything.
Drinking cold Guinness is the beer equivalent of drinking red wine out of the fridge.
Drinking cold Guinness is the beer equivalent of drinking red wine out of the fridge.
I can vouch for that. They both turn yer shite black.
whats wrong with drinking red wine out of the fridge? i find it tastes best cold with some ribena or other purple-ish squash to add extra flavour 🙂

Isn't this the reason lager is always served so cold 😉
Bugger the beer, it's just weak whisky.
Red MCGregor from the Orkney brewery and Spitfire from Shepherd Neame, great beers!

Ribena to make up for the lost taste of chilled wine? 😉
Anyway, beer is great and each to their own!
Beer gives me hangovers from hell, depending on my mood and location it's either Smirnoff red, Southern Comfort or Jagerbombs this winter. All the alcohol induced merriness, without any unfortunate consequences 😉
i'm not a beer fan
winter - meaty red wine and whisky
summer - fruity red wine and G&T and tequila
Oh and guinness occasionally
celebrating a job interview with a bottle of Pakas Paavo, just about the only decent beer in Finland. I recommend a 'pilgrimage' to those nice trappist breweries in NL and belgium.... 😉

Nope, Larger is brewed at a much lower temp IIRC and its served cold so that you cant actually taste it.

The odd Guiness is great - original in bottles at room temp is alright for the money. And the best thing about it is the screw top bottle, so you can re-seal it when you're out on a walk or bike ride. Everything else comes with a crown cap.
This time of year strong and dark beers are best. Porter is lovely and Brakspear Triple is doing it for me at the mo.
Life without beer would be pretty miserable 🙁

I'd be taking that back to the bar - how big is the head on that pint?
😉
Winter - Bath Ales Barnstormer, Otter Ales Otter Claus, Otter Head.
Summer - Otter Ales Bright, Otter Ales Beautiful Daze.
That Brakspear is marvellous stuff. Couldn't believe my luck when I found it on 3 for £4 in Asda.
Brakspear Triple is deadly good... I'll just have another (gets up, falls over).
Another vote for Jaipur - goes down a treat after a ride, smooth, refreshing anfd still gives you the mother of all hangovers the next day.....(actually, that may be age related....)
AAAAAAARGH! Am on a conference call with Merka and I know that I have a Brakspears Triple waiting for me once I've finished.....
This is torture.
Breakspear Triple is ACE.
Blandford fly at the mo and then blonde leffe (special at Tesco's 😳 )
Mrs Julian really likes Poachers' Choice and Longdays at the moment. Oh, how I love her. 😀
I tried that oak aged Innes and Gunn from Edinburgh; it's very interesting, if a tad pricy. I've been enjoying the Leffe too and enjoy in the Munich beers when work takes me there. But my fav is a local ale: Blindman Mine Beer.
Variety is what makes beer so delightful
I've slagged Kent off in my time but by the gods there is some great beer here;

Green daemon has to be my favourite all time beer.
The Merkans have finally finished!
*Grabs glass, picks up bottle.....*
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, that's gooooooood!
Just put some Greene King IPA in the freezer for a quick chill - and also found I have some Old Thumper in stock. Asda 3 for £4 strikes again!
Nononononono! Chill?? Proll

Tell you what, that glass would be in my camelback tout suite!
Another vote for kent here.
Larkins do great beer.
Mid ride refreshment thanks to Swan on the Green
My local, here in North Wilts, has Adnams Broadside on one of the pumps. Mmmmmm, nice.
My fave's are:-
Black Sheep Ale
Tim Taylors Landlord
Youngs Ordinary
Harveys Best
Hopback Summer Lightning
Rumnners Up - too many to name but most IPAs, best bitters and even the odd winter ale when the weather is appropriate. As a southerner I have to admit that Yorkshire makes the best beer. Sadly my home brewery (Badger) is really poor but other Southern brewers make up for it.
This thread is particularly painful as I am on the wagon this month.
Cheers.
I hasten to add that Steinlager Pure is not necessarily my preferred drop, but at the time of posting it was the only Beer in the house and has been since accompanied by several Krombacher Pils 660mls.
Steinlager Pure is the best of a bad bunch.
Last night i had:
Crouchers Pilsner - very nice, brewed in Rotorua
Emerson Bookbinder - classic, lovely on a warm evening
Tuatara Hefe - the king of wheat beers brewed with love and attention up the road.
I love NZ beers (now - they used to be utter utter p1sh). 😀
EDIT: and i hear you about the heat - it was 31.5 yest afternoon, i biked home and almost expired - humid as heck. Great rain dump last night and clear today.
guinness foreign extra - where I be at yo
40mpg - what a bloody fine selection!
I make my own booze. Its ****ing gid.
hh45 - two of the finest beers on your list - Harveys Best and Timiothy Taylor's Landlord.
Harumphhhh - I love beer me but am on a dry month as it's January and also I have a medical at the end of the month. Hopefully all traces of alcohol will be gone by then......
Anybody else brew their own beer? I have to say that I tought it would be crap, but have been very imprseed by what our brewing kit turns out, it's better than 90% of the beer you'll find in pubs and costs from £8-£18 for just over 35 pints..... 😀 ..... hic...... 😉
Sadly my home brewery (Badger) is really poor
Swap you for McMullens of Hertford any day.
I like Badger beer, bottles and draught.
+1 Badger make some cracking beers. Although tanglefoot usually leads to some wreakage the next day!
Im rather partial to Long Days (the one with a hint of raspberry), ooh thats lovely!
Jaipur is top stuff - I'm sure you'd fall over pretty quickly on it.
I do like Purple Moose's Dark Side of the Moose.
Recommendation required please...
Now, I've always associated mild with the contents of the drip tray (not to mention old blokes in flat caps with whippets). The other night I found a bottle of Woodlands Mild at the back of the beer fridge in the garage. It did say best before 2009 but I drunk it anyway. I was surprised by how good it was, quite a nutty flavour - it went down a treat.
So, who else makes a good mild?
Bank's used to a good mild, as did Theakstons. Boddingtons Mild was nice when it was from Strangeways.
Rare to see mild on sale these days. Love it, but it does give me the shits.
cxi - Just about every microbrewery makes a mild these days, they can be either dark, or light.
Timmy Taylors make both and are quite nice:
http://www.timothytaylor.co.uk/OurProducts_GoldenBest.aspx
And:
http://www.timothytaylor.co.uk/OurProducts_DarkMild.aspx
Bank Top Dark Mild is a good one, more of a stout than a mild as it's not as weak as some. I prefer the dark ones.
