I know you poor sods in the northern hemisphere are enduring a grimmer than average winter but I am sitting down in 100% humidity and 22 degrees at 11.25 pm drinking Steinlager Pure and its just the ticket. I bloody love Beer me.
Please to be telling me whats getting you through these chilly times?

It's good. I could probably live without it though. Since leaving uni I've hardly drank it, or any alcohol actually.

Summer Lightning's ok, but you can't beat a proper stout - man's beer.

From the south:

From the north:

I also had a lovely pint of Lee's Chocoholic last week:

Champion!

Good to see someone who doesnt want to taste anything, as long as its cold! Why not just drink cold lemonade?

Heather Bash - Guinness is pretty tasteless compared to a real stout. Have a look at some of my suggestions above and you won't regret it. 😉

Guinness Original in cans is the nearest thing to Guinness of old, the gassy smoothflow stuff you get in pubs is nasty stuff.

The Foreign Extra stout is pretty good though:

whats wrong with drinking red wine out of the fridge? i find it tastes best cold with some ribena or other purple-ish squash to add extra flavour 🙂

Isn't this the reason lager is always served so cold 😉

Beer gives me hangovers from hell, depending on my mood and location it's either Smirnoff red, Southern Comfort or Jagerbombs this winter. All the alcohol induced merriness, without any unfortunate consequences 😉

i'm not a beer fan

winter - meaty red wine and whisky
summer - fruity red wine and G&T and tequila

Oh and guinness occasionally

Nope, Larger is brewed at a much lower temp IIRC and its served cold so that you cant actually taste it.

The odd Guiness is great - original in bottles at room temp is alright for the money. And the best thing about it is the screw top bottle, so you can re-seal it when you're out on a walk or bike ride. Everything else comes with a crown cap.
This time of year strong and dark beers are best. Porter is lovely and Brakspear Triple is doing it for me at the mo.
Life without beer would be pretty miserable 🙁

I tried that oak aged Innes and Gunn from Edinburgh; it's very interesting, if a tad pricy. I've been enjoying the Leffe too and enjoy in the Munich beers when work takes me there. But my fav is a local ale: Blindman Mine Beer.

Variety is what makes beer so delightful

My fave's are:-

Black Sheep Ale

Tim Taylors Landlord

Youngs Ordinary

Harveys Best

Hopback Summer Lightning

Rumnners Up - too many to name but most IPAs, best bitters and even the odd winter ale when the weather is appropriate. As a southerner I have to admit that Yorkshire makes the best beer. Sadly my home brewery (Badger) is really poor but other Southern brewers make up for it.

I hasten to add that Steinlager Pure is not necessarily my preferred drop, but at the time of posting it was the only Beer in the house and has been since accompanied by several Krombacher Pils 660mls.

Steinlager Pure is the best of a bad bunch.

Last night i had:
Crouchers Pilsner - very nice, brewed in Rotorua
Emerson Bookbinder - classic, lovely on a warm evening
Tuatara Hefe - the king of wheat beers brewed with love and attention up the road.

I love NZ beers (now - they used to be utter utter p1sh). 😀

EDIT: and i hear you about the heat - it was 31.5 yest afternoon, i biked home and almost expired - humid as heck. Great rain dump last night and clear today.

Harumphhhh - I love beer me but am on a dry month as it's January and also I have a medical at the end of the month. Hopefully all traces of alcohol will be gone by then......

Anybody else brew their own beer? I have to say that I tought it would be crap, but have been very imprseed by what our brewing kit turns out, it's better than 90% of the beer you'll find in pubs and costs from £8-£18 for just over 35 pints..... 😀 ..... hic...... 😉

Jaipur is top stuff - I'm sure you'd fall over pretty quickly on it.

I do like Purple Moose's Dark Side of the Moose.

Recommendation required please...

Now, I've always associated mild with the contents of the drip tray (not to mention old blokes in flat caps with whippets). The other night I found a bottle of Woodlands Mild at the back of the beer fridge in the garage. It did say best before 2009 but I drunk it anyway. I was surprised by how good it was, quite a nutty flavour - it went down a treat.

So, who else makes a good mild?

Bank's used to a good mild, as did Theakstons. Boddingtons Mild was nice when it was from Strangeways.
Rare to see mild on sale these days. Love it, but it does give me the shits.

cxi - Just about every microbrewery makes a mild these days, they can be either dark, or light.

Timmy Taylors make both and are quite nice:

http://www.timothytaylor.co.uk/OurProducts_GoldenBest.aspx

And:

http://www.timothytaylor.co.uk/OurProducts_DarkMild.aspx

Bank Top Dark Mild is a good one, more of a stout than a mild as it's not as weak as some. I prefer the dark ones.
