Right then, I bought myself a [url=
]cycloc wall bracket for my bike.
I've followed the fixing instructions but in doing so I'm left with three large holes (>12 mm) in my wall which are a bit too big for the expanding shield anchor bolts I've bought to go in them - when I try to tighten them up the expanding bit which is supposed to grip the insides of the wall just spins around inside the hole, so no expansion (and grip) takes place!
I remember my dad using matchsticks put in holes to get grip with screws many years ago and have tried that but that hasn't worked.
I've thought about whacking some No More Nails in the holes first, but I'm worried that the bolts will still spin around, then I'll have cacked up bolts... 😕
Your ideas are welcome! (Sensible ones only please, I might not be able to tell if you're pulling my leg, such is my degree of ineptitude 😳 )
Screw the bolts up a bit before you put them in the hole so they are a tight fit to start with. That is assuming that you drilled the correct size hole for the bolts?
What is the wall made of? Brick? Stone? Breeze blocks? If it's something solid you could wrap the anchors in gaffer tape or something to get an initial grip. If you've gone way over the size they'll never be secure without some gunk in there which sets hard.
Try expanding the bolt a little before putting it in the hole, so it becomes a tight-ish fit. Then tighten it up some more once it is in.
Might be worth wedging a load of grip-fill in there as well for good measure. (but don't expect to ever get it out again).
what they said. Dunno what gunk would work but PVA/NO more nails - no way!
Its a brick wall. Correct sized drill bit was used but my drilling is obviously a bit crap... Will try mark's idea and get back to you...
Move the holes and do a proper job, then fill the crap holes in.
If you don't do a good job its defeating the object no?
12mm holes? Jeebus, it's just a bike bracket. You could hang a ****in car from 12mm bolts!!
Problem fixed, cheers guys.
For reference purposes the bolts are M6 x 90mm, M6 x80 was specified in the cycloc instructions, and the 12mm specified on the bolt packaging...does seem overkill but dont want my precious bike falling off the wall and hurting itself
Fixed that for me 🙂If you don't do a good enough job its defeating the object no?
