No contest to me...... Illy seems overpriced for what it is. Lavazza is pretty cheap and not bad at all. Looking forward to finishing the tin!

Ovbiously if someone wanted to give/sell be a burr grinder I could cconduct more testing and learn about grinding your own 🙂

Lavazza Red every time. I actually prefer it in the morning to Lavazza d'oro (Gold)

Lavazza doesn't approach Illy.

Although Ikea darkroast is pretty good too. 🙄

Just got a big can of Illy in at the moment. Lovely stuff.

Lavazza d'Oro for me, then again I've not tried many.

Alsomst feel cheeted when I get it wrong out of the stove top, this mornings didn't have enough coffee in it so no pressure and a resulting funny taste 🙁

are the Lavazza / illy espresso coffees ground fine enough to make espresso with a nice crema at home?

I want an espresso machine but cant afford that and a decent grinder at the moment. I know it wont taste as fresh if i use the preground stuff but just wondered if they still give ok results and a nice crema?

@lakesrider

IME: Lavazza no; Illy yes.

Then again, it may depend on which Lavazza you get.

Lavazza red is OK
Lavazza black is caffeine heaven
Lavazza D'Or is awsum by pricy

Lavazza Cafe crema from a machine is just lovely

Never tried Illy; put off by the price.

Both are good but illy is better IMHO. Illy is however rather expensive in my view. As for espresso machines Lakesrider, the guys at espressocrazy.com are selling the francisfrancis X7 that uses iperespresso pods - http://www.espressocrazy.com/machines/for_new_iperespresso_capsules/francis_francis_x7_iperespresso_machine/25/ which are pretty good, clean to use but not too cheap. I just like espresso without the fuss to be honest!

Prefer Illy but can't justify the price gap over lavazza gold

Might as well throw Nescafe Gold Blend in the mix if that's the choice...

I don't find that Illy justifies its price - Lavazza Red is nice. The Café Nero beans are better than either.
