A few years ago these could be bought from, I believe, even the supermarkets.
A Coke-sized can with some widget thingy and whilst the temperature was not piping, was quite acceptable for a Winter picnic ride.
Does anyone know if these still exist please?
Thank you so much. 🙂
(Awaits the howls of protest from the coffee snobs on here )
I found them to be excellent for site work / long drives home...
... but I think they suffered from adverse "safety" concerns - ie punters burning themselves on something hot 🙄
Why not simply carry a small flask with home-made coffee? Surely far cheaper in the long run.
Sometimes one can't be bothered with making a flask of 'proper' coffee!
Oh, and it would be a disaster if I ran out of creamers. 😉
[pervy] I'm sure there are quite a few forumites who will help you with creamers CG [/pervy]
Not currently available, but will be on sale again as a white coffee in about two months.

Indeedy, IIRC until recently I worked for the company that made the cans, had to be withdrawn due to stupid ppl burning themselves..
Was all the packaging for those coffee things recyclable ? Seemed a very non-eco friendly solution to getting a cup of coffee.
from memory, you had to mentally disconnect the term 'coffee' from your interaction with these things. They were a hot drink that had a taste of sorts, but they sure as hell weren't coffee...
Great for winter rides back in the day, unfreeze ur drivetrain or feet in no time them things

The packaging, was aluminium, so yes it is recyclable & usually is "recycled", unlike a lot of recyclable stuff. Now what the heating mechanism and it's internal container were made of would be another matter.
They tasted foul. Once saw a documentory about a simular self heating roast dinner. You pulled a strip off the lid which set some magnesium and witch- craft off and you had a Sunday lunch on a mountain top.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. More landfill I would imagine 🙁
So many replies, thank you all. 🙂
Of course, one could take flask of 'proper' coffee for elevenses and picnic lunch. Leave self-heating coffee in backpack (or car) for end of ride, particularly if bike cleaning duties have to be carried out.
Must confess though, can't really remember what it actually tasted like.
Perhaps a hot chocolate one could possibly be nicer?
self heating roast dinner
Now wouldn't that be good out on the trail...sandwiches NOT for me I always carry a roast dinner! 8)
You could try this stuff
It's absolutely minging though.
I would rather eat cow pats than those!
The closet thing to a RD is this...FOOD.... but MUTTON? thought that was banned.. 😕
Warm cow pats, just put your cold coffee in them.. 😆

You have got off lightly with comments like that, so far that is! 😉

Thought I had been very restrained concerning Admiralable's comment!
[s]smacks herself for being so silly[/s]
but MUTTON? thought that was banned.
Mutton is delicious and lean I'm told, although is a bit tougher than lamb so needs appropriate cooking.
I'd eat it if it were readily available.
Poundland selection and a flask of hot water, then you can have a variety of 'Tastes vaguely like...' sensations - tea, choccy, coffee, Bovril for the clinically insane..
Nowt wrong with mutton, but it was quite a surprise, just due the it's 'bad' rep as a meat. Oh and mutton is just anything that's over a year old (lamb upto that point)... it's ain't the old knackered ewe's meat.
Mutton with onion sauce? School dinners I think!
Is it not possible to buy mutton now?
plenty of mutton dressed as lamb in here (well, ram mutton anyway)
Perhaps a hot chocolate one could possibly be nicer?
