Going up Scafell Pike on Saturday and wondered if anyone knows the best walking route? Thanks Marc.
Where are you starting from?
The most interesting is generally reckoned to be The Corridor Route from Seathwaite in Borrowdale but it can be busy. If you are in Eskdale then heading up by the Esk then to Great Moss and up to Mickledore or via Little Narrowcove would be the best routes and would be my choice.
Depends where you want to start and how long as above....
I personally like Ennerdale but its not the most accessible by car... and a group of us used to walk over o Was****er of an evening to the pub back when the hostel had no power...(and Brian the warden was still alive and I was young and fit :()
Buttermere over Haystacks and Gable is also nice..(the direct routes or me were always less attractive than creeping up on it).. I suppose the busiest will be from the Dungeon Ghyll...
I'm reminiscing though ... sadly its decades since I was there when it used to be almost every weekend 🙁
I love the route from Wasdale Head, up Lingmell beck to Styhead, over Great End etc. Then over Mickledore to Scafell and back down to Wasdale

did it with my 10 year old son recently (well, april). Lovely walk, and quieter than most of them up the hill
On a Saturday in August I would go from Eskdale as suggested by Whitestone. Otherwise it can feel like you're in one of the UK's prettiest queues.
Seathwaite - Grains gill - Esk hause etc, return via Corridor route.
I'm going to agree with whitestone. The Little Narrowcove route from Cockley Beck is excellent.
If you're in the north Lakes and can't face the drive round to Eskdale, you could be creative and approach via Glaramara and Allen Crags/Esk Hause...gets you up above the crowds pretty quick and feels airy and remote in parts.
Even a tiny bit of hands-on scrambling if you're into that kind of thing.
I'll update my recommendation slightly:
Brotherlikeld (at foot of HardKnott Pass), follow the Esk to the packhorse bridge, take the main (left) branch of the river to Great Moss. Go under Esk Buttress (marked as Dow Crag on the map) and up Little Narrowcove to the ridge, go left on main path to summit. Head down to Mickledore then turn left and head back down to Eskdale by Cam Spout. Now take the path over by silverybield crag to drop back to Eskdale and Brotherlikeld.
If you want to do Scafell as well then after Mickledore, drop down to the gully that is the outflow of Foxes Tarn and go up this to the tarn then up to the summit. Descend to Eskdale via Slight Side.
