Not a Garmin.

All it does is spin and then send you round in circles. Three times in one trip to my folks.

Anything but a Garmin.

Tomtom, Citroën garages had full Europe ones for £89, well my local Evans Halshaw does anyway.

Iphone. With a proper mount and Bluetooth connection to the car it is brilliant.

I like my Garmin, and the previous one. Whatever you choose, go for free updates for life

Thanks for replies. Did think about using my iphone but the 4s screen is quite small and so is my data allowance. Might check out £40 one.

With a full-blown satnav app such as TomTom or CoPilot, you don't need a data allowance, everything is stored locally. (It may use a tiny amount of data to speed up the initial GPS lock though).

That's interesting to know about the data allowance. I actually have a PDA which has co-pilot on it so I guess I could use that. I do like google maps on my phone. My mate uses google maps on his phone in conjuction with a Tomtom.

I really rate CoPilot (Android rather than iPhone though). TomTom is the daddy but it's a lot more expensive that CoPilot. £20 for the UK, £30 for all of Western Europe. Add SVOX for a couple of quid and you've got full voice-driven navigation.

There's also Waze and NavFree, which are free, well regarded I believe but I've not used them personally (cos I bought CoPilot).

Navfree on your smart phone . downloads the maps so just uses GPS not data when driving. Was good enough to navigate round medieval streets in Portugal when under pressure with my father in law driving.

I really rate CoPilot

Don't you find it verbose?
I have it on a phone that I sometimes use when away in a hire car but can't stand the incessant nattering 🙂
