We have a non-blue light wake up thingie that makes a massive difference.
Thought about the blue light things but they were much more and the wake up light is working for us.
They don't fix all aspects of SAD, but they do help with waking up and preparing for the day ahead, using an SAD alarm clock combined with an SAD light.
I've had a Pharos Max for just over ten years now, buying replacement bulbs from www.lampspecs.co.uk every ~2 years for ~£4 each (SAD companies often charge ~triple that). It was one of the most powerful on the market back then, far more powerful than my older Lumie Brightspark, I could get a suitable fix in ~30mins with the Pharos Max.
We also have a Lumie SAD alarm clock, but I need to buy a replacement sunset/sunrise bulb (original bulb lasted ~10 years)!

We have one of the wake up lamps (not a SAD one) which definitely helps in the morning, I was thinking of the little ones that can go to work and such.
I used one in my office every morning last autumn. It was REALLY gloomy this time last year - and definitely got on top of me. I can't remember which model or brand it was though. About £35 on eBay reduced from about £60 rrp.
You have to REALLY dedicated using it though and follow the instructions. Needs to be around 30cm from your face and blasting at you for a solid hour (and a bit) in the first half of the day. I used it beside my computer monitor, which was quite alarmingly disconcerting for my office mates.
The diffuse light lamp is SUPER bright. Painful-to-look-directly-at, bright.
Does the trick though..
I've used a Phillips GoLite Blue for years and it really helps. It's small, rechargeable and portable with a neat case. Best to put it about a metre away from you while you're working or reading or whatever, and just carry on as normal. You're not meant to stare at it. I try to use it for about 30mins each morning through the winter.
